Sonoma for 3 nights

Any recommendations for foodies while in the Sonoma area? Staying in the Glen Ellen area...also great red wineries? I have some tips but thought I would post to the forum as well. Thank!

There are a lot of good restaurants in the town of Sonoma around the historic Plaza, which is a rather short drive from Glen Ellen.

The most expensive is Estate, which is in a Victorian house built on his estate by General Vallejo, the Mexican Alcalde during the Mexican period, for his youngest daughter, Natalia, upon her marriage. I would consider this a real "foodies'" place. (Until a recent change in management is was called "The General's Daughter". The chef is Sondra Bernstein.)

Others in the locale are the girl and the fig (yes, spelled that way), which is a bistro in the historic Sonoma Hotel which gets good reviews. Others are Cafe la Haye, and Della Santini's, and the El Dorado Kitchen, in the historic El Dorado Hotel.

If you do a search on the Sonoma forum for restaurants you will get comments and reviews.

Thank you so much for the great tips...one I had not heard of was the estate one. Do you know Cyrus? That has been recommended to us! Thanks again!

Cyrus is not in the town of Sonoma.

Cyrus is very good if you don't mind the drive up to Healdsburg, about 45-60 mintues. Cyrus is quite an 'event', dinner ususally lasting a few hours, so I wouldn't imagine wanting to drive after that.

For wineriers, Mayo and St. Francis are two great spots that also have wine and food options.

Ledson and Landmark are two more very beautiful wineries.

Thank you, I just saw where Cyrus was and unfortunately it has gotten terrible recent reviews. Thanks for the updates on wineries.

We have had excellent meals at Cyrus. The food is awesome and the service is impeccable. If you do want to dine right in Sonoma, check out the girl and the fig or Cafe La Haye. These restaurnats are not on the same level as Cyrus, tho. Enjoy your time in the wine country! :)

First off, I would not give 5 cents for TA restaurant reviews. TA does not vet restaurant reviews in the same way they do hotel reviews (like sending out an email) and they also pull in junk from Facebook.

Check out the Yelp reviews and look for how many reviews a person has posted: www.yelp.com/biz/cyrus-healdsburg-2…

I went a couple of year's ago and really enjoyed it. It was a true experience, from beginning to end.

One thing that does concern me is the trend line on the Yelp reviews. OTOH that could be attributed to being a victim of their own success. After a while, nothing is as good as people *think* it should be.

Bottom line: don't go, or not go, because of TA reviews. They are to be nothing but ignored.

(Note, my dissatisfaction with TA restaurant reviews developed after I placed my own Cyrus review on this site.)
