Avoid http://www.searanchgetaway.com

My wife and I have visited Sea Ranch 4 times now and we love it. We've tried a few of the rental agencies, and just got home from a very bad experience with one particular agency. We rented through:

http://www.searanchgetaway.com/

They were very unpleasant, and more importantly, the house was in a state of disrepair. The Washer-Dryer was pre-historic, and unsurprisingly didn't work. The stereo was broken, as was one of the heaters, and the fireplace. When we mentioned this to the agency they made no apologies or attempts to right the situation. Instead the suggested we should just rent from some other agency next time.

FYI, the house was the "Creekside", which would've been a nice house otherwise.

As an aside, we used http://www.searanchrentals the other 3 times and they were very pleasant and accomodating. It felt like they took a lot more pride in the properties they managed.

Sorry about your bad experience.

Interestingly enough searanchgetaway.com takes you to the Don Berard rental agency, which is one of the largest. in the area.

It looks as if you paid too much for the location, as well.

We have rented in Sea Ranch, with friends, several times. My husband's brother and his wife also own a house there, and we have stayed with them many times.

We have used Sea Ranch Vacation Homes ..... www.searanchrentals.com. when with friends.

We have had pretty good luck with them, but on one occasion when our friends rented a three bedroom for a week and had various friends, including us, come in for a couple of days at a time for an important birthday they did not return the cleaning deposit. I was almost the last person to leave and I am a "clean freak" and it was completely unreasonable for them to refuse to return the deposit.

Last month we went to Sea Ranch for our niece's wedding and we rented a house for ourselves since the entire world, including Canada and Norway, was descending for the event. We used searanchrentals and found a very reasonable house with blue water views.

However, having been burned before about the cleaning deposit I sent an email to the rental agency afterwards telling them to alert the owners that although we had not cooked in the house I had noticed that their new smooth-top range already had burned on stuff and, since I own one myself, they should supply smooth top cleaning cream and a razor blade scraper to take care of the problem. I also pointed out several other flaws that we had taken care of and told them to alert th owners. And I pointed out that, unlike other rentals we had used, this one had no folder of user manuals for the various appliances. They returned our $200 deposit.

Paranoid? Who, me?

Has anyone rented the Amoretto from www.searanchrentals and is it nice?

We rented from Don Berard (searanchgetaway.com) two years ago. I had read on another forum (some sort of UC faculty forum) that some people didn't get their deposit back for bogus reasons from them.

Everything was fine with us, although we spent way to long cleaning the house when we left and didn't use the fireplace or hot tub.

The house was nice enough (Casa de Diez), although the deck was not as inviting as it appeared on the photos but the window benches were great.

I am anxious to see how www.searanchrentals is.

We rented Olag from searanchrentals.com, as in my previous message about them.

I looked at Amoretto (?)...anyway, the one in your message, and it looks good. It is more expensive than Olag, but the views seem to be from higher up, giving you more water. Also, Olag has only 2 bedrooms, while Amaretto (?) has 2 bedrooms with den.

The pictures of Olag make it look very plain, exactly what we were looking for. It was quite comfortable with a great window seat, and not "fussy". We did a walk from there up and around and down by the ocean.

If you read my previous paranoid earlier post you will know that we have dealt with searanchrentals several times. I understand your concern about getting the deposit back. We did not cook, except for a little breakfast of rolls and coffee, and we did not use the hot tub. We were there for a family wedding.

But, still, because our friends had been refused the return of their deposit on the "birthday week", I tried to cover our....<ahem>....by emailing the agency about what we had found when we arrived and suggesting to the owners how they might make it easier to have the supplies to leave it clean.

The deposit was returned speedily.

Good luck.

OH...could you please give me the URL of the UC faculty site? My husband is an emeritus professor.

Sorry, I don't have the URL for the UC faculty site. I had just googled the rental agency to see what I could find and the forum came up. It may not even have been a UC faculty site. I just remember there was a visiting professor who wanted to know where to go for a weekend from Berkeley. People had given the advise to go to Sea Ranch and someone said not to use Don Berard because of their experience. (I want to say we got our deposit back from Don Berard without a problem.)

It sounds like all the places have gotten a lttlle harder to deal with. We used to rent places at Sea Ranch quite often 15-20 years ago, when we were not the most responsible, and never had any problems.

Oh well, it is still a beautiful place to go and very reasonable, when you think of how much hotels are these days.
