What to do in El Segundo?

Hubby has an early morning seminar to attend this Thursday morning. He needs to check in by 8:00 and our room won't be available until 3:00 in the afternoon. What's there to do within a 20 mile radius to keep me occupied? Also, we could use suggestions for lunch and dinner restaurants near the Northrup/Grumman facility.

You've got the beach right there. To the south, you have Manhattan Beach, which is very nice with shopping and a pier. Palos Verdes is below that with the scenery it has to offer. To the north, there's Venice and Santa Monica.

Really, 20-mile radius puts you all the way to downtown LA...so you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Northrup/Grumman is located in El Segundo, MB and Redondo there are buildings everywhere along Aviation Blvd. There is a small Mall in Manhattan on the corner of Rosecrans and Sepulveda with a Macy's, Pottery Barn, etc. In El Segundo a block away is the ES Plaza with many stores. Both places have tons of restaurants to choose from as well as up and down Rosecrans.

In downtown MB there are lots of cute shops around the Pier, which is fun to walk out on. Many restaurants there too.

What is your price range for meals and what type of food are you looking for? Do you want chains, like CA Pizza Kitchen, Houston's, PF Changs, or looking for more local places?

Thanks for the quick responses!

We'd like to keep dinner to around $20/each and lunch for around $10/each. For lunch though, it will need to be quick and close by.

We're both not very adventurous as far as food goes. PF Changs would be the limit!

My main concern is what can I do to pass the time so early in the morning. Are the malls open at 8:00 a.m.? Is the area safe to walk around?

On Rosecrans Ave. is the Bristol Farm Market, shopping area 1570 Rosecrans Ave. There are some quick food places for lunch, Asian, Mexican, Johnny Rockets, etc. but there is a little Cafe inside Bristol Farms which has an nice place for lunch. I'll be there tomorrow.

Here is the menu for Thursday:

LUNCH

Southwestern Turkey Sandwich

Sourdough Bread filled with Turkey, Chipotle BBQ Mayonnaise, Avocados, Jalapeño Muenster Cheese, Lettuce & Tomatoes.

$7.95

I guess the mall's are not open until 10 am. You can go to the Pier area on MB Blvd. and take a walk out on the pier, or get a cup of coffee at one of the many outdoor places. There is a Peet's, Starbucks, etc. and also Kettle Restaurant is great for a muffin/breakfast or lunch.

You could make your $20 budget dinner at Beaches Restaurant. It's at the base of the pier, and you could have ocean and sunset view.

Manhattan Beach is one of the safest beach cities in the area. Not to worry.
