Grocery store stop from Reno Airport to June Lake

Hello - later this month we will be arriving into Reno Airport and then driving down to June Lake, CA for a family event. Two adults, two kids and we will need groceries for a week in our condo. Can locals give some recommendations for places within 30 mins of June Lake to stop for groceries that are not just health food/general stores? At this point I'm not sure yet whether we will stop on our way in or just go to the condo and then venture out the next morning for groceries, in which case, Mammoth would be an option as well (but I'm guessing there aren't many inexpensive stores there!)

Thanks for any advice.

Amery

Hmm. Mammoth has a good selection of regular grocery stores.

The Vons in Mammoth Lakes has the same prices as any Vons or Safeway in California. There's a Raleys in Gardnerville which is about an hour south of Reno. That's the last supermarket before Mammoth Lakes, I believe.

On the south end of Carson City just past Hwy 50, is a large shopping center up on the hill on the right on Hwy 395 - Topsy Lane (about 40 minutes from Reno). There is a Walmart SuperCenter, Target, In-n-Out Burger, and other fast food. It is about 15-20 minutes before Gardnerville. I think either place would be preferable to a drive to Mammoth after driving from Reno. Perhaps you can pick up a cheapie ice chest for perishables if 2 plus hours seems a little too long before your arrival at June Lake.

In Gardnerville there is a big Raley's, which is a great grocery store, on 395 just south of Tolar.

This would be about 2 hours from June Lake so if you had ice I imagine that wouldn't be good.

The Mono Market in Lee Vining is really pretty comprehensive although it isn't very big. I seem to remember seeing good produce too. I thought it was a BIG cut above the grocery store in June Lake which has had pathetic produce when I've been in there.

There's also a Costco just north of the place described by Mere, above.

The Costco turnoff is the first right after the Highway 50 intersection. I think there is a casino on the corner, but I can't remember the name of it.

There is a Von's (Safeway) in Mammoth. I don't see the point of stopping on the way. I don't think the Von's is more expensive there than it is anyplace else.

Do get a Von's Club Card.

You don't need to carry the card, you can just use your phone number to sign in at the register. It saves a good bit of money.

Bodines is the casino at the on the corner to turn for Costco. Inexpensive meals. Next street south is Topsy Lane, and a right into the shopping Center. Mammoth Lakes would be an additional 25 minutes of driving beyond June Lake and backtracking. Depends how one feels after coming from Reno.....

I have to agree with most of the others above. The Raley's in Gardnerville is on the left right on Hwy 395. It is a very large store, good produce, bakery etc. If you don't want to stop that soon, it would be best to make the additional drive to Mammoth. Anything in between you will find higher prices and poorer selection.
