Komodo Dancer in Aug/Sept 2011 - Any liveaboard advice?

We are going on our first liveaboard trip to go diving around komodo! We are on the Komodo Dancer cruise leaving on Aug 24 and were wondering if anyone else (who looks at these forums) is on it?

Or if anyone has been on the dancer and has any advice for our first liveaboard trip?

Thanks!

I just disembarked from a 10day trip on KD. The crew is the best part of a liveaboard trip and this crew lived up to that expectation.

The most important things to be aware of are that you will not need many clothes, so packing light is relatively easy. A few shirts/a shorts and a couple of long sleeve shirts + hat are all you need in addition to your swimsuits. Be prepared for the small cabin size, too.

I bring my own dive gear, but the rental gear looked in good repair, and several persons did rent dive gear. Bring your own dive lights, though, as they ran out due to demand on my cruise. Be prepared for the water temps... in the north it was 79F regularly but got down to 74-75 in the south part of the KNP. Brrrr... most used a 5mm fullsuit then. There is a Komodo Dragon Park walk with the rangers that lasted about 1 hour in length.

The dive dinghies are well run and the dive guides/divemasters run a good safe operation.

Food is decent. Full options for breakfast, indonesian buffet for lunch and then western style foods served for dinner. Free sodas and Bintang beer. Free wine with dinner. Trisno will take your breakfast order before the first dive, and take good care of you with meals, etc.

The flights to Labuan Bajo (Komodo) are ~1 hour in length and have a 15kg/person baggage allowance... It is 11,000 Rupiah/kilo for excess luggage paid for at the counter at checkin.

Airport transfer to and from the boat at LBJ was efficiently handled. Your luggage is transported to the boat after you identify it for the agent, Sebastian.

Have a great trip!

Thank you so much!! Appreciate all the tips and info - it will really help us pack! We bring our own gear too but maybe will bring a few more flashlights :) Odd question - do you know if there was laundry service on board? Also did you see hair dryers?

Thanks!
