2 Days - La Jolla v Mission Bay?

We are having 2 days in San Diego at end of a cruise. We don't particularly want to hire a car but want to pack as much into these 2 days as we can. I visited San Diego many years ago - loved it but can't think which area would be best to stay for these 2 days. Definitely want to revisit Mission Bay - is this easily doable from La Jolla? Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Are you sure you mean Mission Bay and not Mission Beach?

Other than biking/walking around or using the park space there isnt much to do on at Mission Bay

Regardless La Jolla to either Mission BAy or Mission Beach is a 15 minute drive, or cab ride, on the bus it will take longer.

Do you want to visit La Jolla, but stay someplace else? The places that most visitors who don't have cars stay are the Downtown area, Old Town and Little Italy since you have access to the best public transportation with the buses and San Diego's light rail system called The Trolley.

The trouble is neither Mission Beach (or Bay) or La Jolla is easily accessible on public transportation. It is certainly doable on public transportation it just takes a lot longer.

If you want to "pack in" all you can, I would rent a car because trying to take public transportation to site after site will take two to three times longer or more. Below is an example.

Driving takes 21 minutes, the bus an 1:15. That is more than three times as long.

As said, you are wanting to visit two inconvenient places without a car.

If you're set on not renting a car then I would stick with Downtown San Diego (where the cruise port is - cruise port to La Jolla is approx 14 miles), Little Italy and Old Town.

From those places you can take the Old Town Trolley Tour

Youu can also take a tour to La Jolla.

Mission Bay is a place to go for outdoor activities only. Biking, swimming, jet skis, sailing, etc.
