most economical beachfront hotel

We have never been to CA before, and we are a family of four including two teenage daughters. They are drawn to the website pictures of the Pacific Edge hotel, but the reviews are terrible! We are on a tight budget and if we get a "village double" room, we will not have the ocean views, but we can't pay more than that. We are flying in and hope not to have to rent a car the whole time, so beach chairs, etc.. would be necessary amenities. Any advice?

Im one that agrees with the reviews, and especially wouldnt consider the Village double. The Laguna Cliffs Inn is a good budget alternative on the oceanside of PCH but not beachfront with good access to downtown

The Hotel Laguna is oceanfront and the guests have access to lounge chairs, it's wonderful! Food and beverage service for guests, also. :).

I wonder if syrahgirl has a financial relationship with Hotel Laguna. It may be on the beach but its rooms are horrible. Read the reviews. And they charge far more than nicer hotels nearby. tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g32588-d1138…

Since you are coming with 2 teen girls, you might check Laguna Riviera. http://www.lagunariviera.com/accomodation.php

They have some large suites with efficiency kitchens that accommodate 5 people. I have friends who own a TS there and love it.
