which airport is easier to get to Laguna Beach?

I have never been to Cali so the thought of driving in LA traffic scares the holy bejeezus out of me. Would it be easier to land in Santa Ana and rent a car, or should I opt for LAX and take a shuttle of some sort? Just curious what the easier form of transportation would be.

The closest airport is John Wayne (aka Orange County/Snata Ana/SNA) and then Long Beach (LGB). Both these airports are smaller (LGB is smaller than SNA) than the massive LAX airport.

So if you like Southwest, look at SNA, jetBlue is LGB.

Laguna Beach is not the friendliest Public Transit area. They do have a local shuttle, but to leave the city can be a pain, so I would rent a car. From either SNA or LGB, you can avoid the freeways and just opt to take Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) south to Laguna Beach.

Otherwise, I would look into a Shared Shuttle Van to Laguna Beach from either airport.

Fly into John Wayne (SNA) and rent a car. The drive from SNA to Laguna Beach down the coast is great.

Yes would love dining and lodging recs!! Would love to stay right on the beach, and can probably afford around 200 a night. Don't know if there is anything that cheap that is nice and right on the beach or close by.

Laguna has a lot of small independent hotels, they are not fancy but they are within a block of the beach and should be clean. Closest to forest avenue is the best. If you rent a car, just take MacArthur to pacific coast highway, easy drive and very scenic.

When you are coming is important. You might get a nice hotel on the beach if it isn't Summer, Spring Break, Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation.

Start with the Inn at Laguna Beach then look at the Laguna Cliffs Inn, Pacific Edge and Laguna Riviera.
