Yes, while Laguna Beach is nice, it is somewhat isolated.

Will you rent a car?

What type of things do you want to see/do?

What type of budget will you have and what type of accommodation are you looking for? A resort, or something more mid-range?

Are you interested in Beach Communities, maybe a few days in Laguna Beach, then some time in San Diego, or maybe Long Beach or Huntington Beach.

Or maybe a mix, some beach days, and somewhere more inland, maybe Hollywood.

I would do some research, here is the state's official tourism website.

OK, then Laguna Beach is not for you, maybe arrange for a day trip.

The main areas for visiting the places you mentioned and have good public/mass transit are the Anaheim/Garden Grove area near Disneyland, and the Hollywood area (Los Angeles).

Alas, they are both inland. Newport Beach/Balboa Peninsula area is the closest to Disneyland, but still doesn't have the best public transit between the two areas.

Huntington Beach is another close one, the public transit is OK, and the Hyatt and Hilton Resort offered a shuttle to Disneyland this summer. Might be a bit high for your budget though.

Long Beach has access to the LA Metro Blue Line rail system, but the area isn't a traditional beach swimming area.

Maybe a few days in Huntington Beach, spend some time at Disneyland and other popular attractions in the Anaheim area using the shuttle, and then move to the Hollywood and Highland area for the other days. The corner is the hub for Starline Tours, and the LA Metro Red Line has a station there. You can use the HoHo buses to get around and explore other areas.

10 days in Laguna is too long. But the town is situated about half way between LA and San Diego so you can use it as a home base for excursions to other attractions in Southern California.
