Long Beach to San Pedro for cruise

We have to drop off our hire car in Long Beach, (112 Pacific Ave) but will still need to get to San Pedro for a cruise. How do we get to San Pedro from Long Beach? How far is it? It looks like there is a commuter bus (I think), but don't know if it runs on Sundays or if they take luggage? How much would a taxi cost?

Thank you for any advice.

I think you should take a taxi, and you will need to call ahead and make a reservation to do so.

If you don't want to take a cab, then poke around the Los Angeles County's Metropolitan Transportation Authority's ("MTA") web site and try and figure out which bus (or, more likely, buses) you will need to take to get to where you want to go. The MTA's web site is:

http://www.mta.net

In particular, the large map that shows all buses is helpful:

mta.net/riding_metro/…planning_trip-01.htm

Since cabs charge by the distance, I needed to figure out how far you'll be going. You mentioned a starting address (where you're dropping off your rental car at 112 Pacific Avenue in Long Beach), but I had to figure out where you were going in San Pedro.

I searched for "San Pedro" and "cruise" using Google and came across this web site that listed the address of departing cruises in San Pedro:

http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/crusshp.htm

The address listed is:

North Harbor Boulevard and Swinford Street

San Pedro, CA 90731

Using the Google map page (http://maps.google.com), the distance between these two addresses is 5.8 miles.

Next, I used Google to locate a Los Angeles-based taxi cab company, to find out what the rates are. I searched for "Los Angeles" and "taxi" and picked this web site:

http://www.taxicabsla.org/

According to this web site, the fare would be $13.60, assuming no tip or delays to traffic. It's typical to tip cab drivers $1.00 or $2.00.

may I also suggest that you visit the following website

if you go to the visitors section (transportation) there will be a list of different companies that will transport you. Under the airport transportation section may I suggest you try Super Shuttle (the website also includes a discount of $2 off per person). They will pick you up and deliver you whereever you need to go (just call ahead with addresses). They do take luggage and this will be cheaper than a taxi.

Have fun on your cruise!
