Please see our FAQs at the top of the Los Angeles Forums. Most of your questions will be answered there.

Yes it's beach weather in July.

Will you have a car? What is your budget for a hotel, per night? 2 rooms or one?

£35 per night for a room will mean staying at a very modest hotel. Look into the Motel 6 in Hollywood on Whitley Av. Without a car, you'll have to rely on public transit to get around the city. For example, although Hollywoo is close to (within 10 to 30 minutes by bus) many tourist attractions, if you want to exploire the "wesitside (beaches, etc), you're in for a 1 hour ride (two buses in succession) each way. One option is to stay in Hollywood for half of your trip and then on the westside for the other half. The "best deal" is a hostel in Santa Monica (2 blocks from the ocean and within downtown), It's called the HI Santa Monica.

To go out of the city, the public transit options are somewhat limited depending on what attraction you select.

Here are links to info on the 2 properties.

BTW, it's helpful if you can be as specific as possible when you pose a question. Words like: "cheap", "close to", etc mean different things to different people.

L.A. is the second largest city in the U.S. and is very spread out. There are over 100 museums, for example. So, tell us the KINDS of things that interest you and we can better respond to you. Do you like:

Museums, natural beauty, architecture, celebrity-spotting, etc, etc.

There are many, many websites and guides that will give you a thorough overview of the attractions in L.A., I recommend exposing yourself to one or more of those and then posting specific questions here about activities you want to see. One of those website is here:

Since you will be without a car, until we know where you are staying, it's difficult to recommend attractions since they may be too far away from your hotel (by public transit) to make it worth your while.

Good luck
