THere are no Walmarts CLOSE to the airport. Where is your hotel? There is a Walmart in the Crensahaw District (to the east and north of the airport about 20 minutes).

There is a Target store (Walmaer competitor) in Manhattan Beach (10-12 minutes directly south of the airport on Sepulveda Bl).

You can also look at a Best Buy (electronics store). There is one 15 or 20 minutes north of the airport at:

11301 W Pico Blvd

Los Angeles, CA 90064

Phone: 310-268-9190

All of these retailers have websites where you may be able to find other store locations and the price of their products. Good luck!

seems to me the best deals for a GPS system is online. Why dont u get it that way and bring it with you on your visit.

As I mentioned in your other thread -- if you are renting a car, you can request one with a gps.

We don't have a lot of Wal-Marts here. We don't really like them. ;-)

Walmart is a great place to shop, but I don't know if they would have the cheapest GPS, but they might be close. As stated, check out some of the other big retailers we have here, like Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and even Costco. Take a look at their websites to see how much the GPS's are going for. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, there really aren't any Walmarts on that entire side of town near LAX.

There IS a Walmart in Torrance, which is a 15 minute drive south of LAX. I posted more details on your other thread for this.

I second the suggestion for Fry's if you are going to buy your own. Most rental car companies here will rent you a GPS unit along with your car for an additional fee.

Depending on how long you are renting your car for (and thus the total GPS rental fee), whether or not you want to buy a GPS anyway, and the cost of the GPS unit that you'd buy (or the cost of the GPS unit if you'd buy one at home), it may or may not be better to rent one.

Also, be advised that most GPS units sold here only include maps of US roads. If you want to use the GPS back in Australia, you'll either need to purchase a model that includes global maps (tends to be more expensive, and you'll need to be sure that whatever model you buy specifically includes this) or you'll need to purchase a model that supports adding Australian maps on at a later time, which you'll be able to purchase later from the company that manufactures whatever unit you purchase.

In addition, one other thing to keep in mind is that most models include an AC adapter for charging the unit from the power outlet in the wall. The adapter included with most units sold in the US will work in US power outlets but not in Australian outlets without an additional travel adapter.
