1. Re: red line metro question

The metro, see www.metro.net is the public transit agency in Los Angeles having buses and some trains. hop on/off bus sounds like a private tour bus. Most people would take a taxi or shuttle van to get to San Pedro, although it is possible to take the Red Line (subway train) from Hollywood to downtown Union Station and then Metro Express Line 445 (bus) to the cruise terminal.

Hop on/hop off is a tour bus. Metro (red, blue, gold, green) is our metro public transportation system. So no, they are not the same thing. Easiest way to get to the cruise port in San Pedro is a shuttle (Super Shuttle or Prime Time Shuttle)

No, not the same.

The hop/on hop/off bus (run by www.starline.com) has four routes / loops, the yellow loop, red loop, purple loop, and blue loop.

These are all tour bus loops, and you pay for a 24 or 48 hour pass.

The county transit agency in Los Angeles (Metro) runs some light rail train lines (blue line, green line, gold line), two subway lines (purple line, red line), and a couple of color coded bus lines (orange line, silver line).

The Metro is substantially cheaper than the hop on/hop off, at $1.25 per ride (or $5 for an unlimited day pass), but its not a tour.

Understand the trip from downtown to Long Beach takes about an hour on the Blue Line. Factor in time getting from Hollywood to downtown on the Red Line. I'd assume you'd have to take a cab from downtown Long Beach to the port. Give yourself plenty of time.

Check with the front desk at the hotel. They may have some other solutions.

You could easily take the red line from Hollywood/Vine(W Hotel) to the 7th/metro station and transfer from there to the #445 Express bus that takes you to San Pedro. One way trip will be around 78 minutes(car/taxi wont be that much faster/no need to take the blue line or a taxi). One way cost will be $3.70/person

For the exact times of the #445 bus you can always consult the metro tripplaner at www.metro.net

I agree with Alex :)

Not a good idea to use the Blue Line if you are trying to get to San Pedro.
