5 night stay with 10 month old and 2 year old

We have won a 5 night trip staying in the Wilshire Grand hotel. We are planning to go in October so it is not too hot but still warm enough to go out and about - is that right?

We will prob do universal, and Hollywood initailly. Can anyone suggest other things that young children will enjoy - i.e restaurants that are not necessarily comercially "kiddy" but are child friendly?!?

Wilshire Grand is right downtown and close to public transit (assuming you won't rent a car). You can also take public transit from there to Disneyland and its adjacent attractions. Also a bus to Santa Monica (pier, beach, etc.). Here are transit options. See the trip planner at www.metro.net for transit info.

Your kids are too young for Universal.

Did you read the Family section of TA? There's an entire section dedicated to Los Angeles for families.

Depends on what you mean by "not too hot". October can sometimes have the hottest temps of the year. And, downtown, is among the hottest neighborhoods as it is the furthest from the ocean.

Get a copy of the British publication "DK Eyewitness Guide to Los Angeles". Our city is much more than theme parks and "Hollywood" (Don't miss it!).

Your kids are way too young and might be really frightened at Universal...it is geared to older kids and adults and aimed at scaring them. Please go on the Universal Studios website! If you are intent on going to a theme park in LA, I would take them to Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm or the mini amuesment park at the pier in Santa Monica Beach. You can check out a great website called …parentsconnect.com/region/los-angeles-ca-usa for activities, child friendly restaurants, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, kids theater, etc. Many restaurants are casual with outdoor seating and are very kid friendly. LA is great for kids and virtually every neighborhood has a ton of kid friendly things to do.

As for weather, LA can be as hot as 100 degrees Farenheit or as low as 60 degrees furing the day in October. Generally, year round our weather is nice enough to go out and about. It rearely drops below 60 during the day even in the winter and unless it is an El Nino year we don't get much rain. Enjoy your trip!

Most less formal restaurants downtown will only be open during the day on weekdays - this would include the great food court on the bottom level of the 7th & Fig (Figueroa St.) center across the street from the Wilshire Grand. The restaurants open in the evening and on weekends tend to be more formal, but not in every case. I don't think you'd have a problem taking kids to places like California Pizza Kitchen (located in the Wells Fargo Center around 3rd and Hope St.) or Johnny Rocket's located at 5th & Figueroa, a few blocks from the Wilshire Grand.
