Still need ideas (teen boys + grandpa)

We are travelling with 3 teen boys + 83 year old grandpa.

We travel to LA a few time a year, so have been to Universal + Disney many times.

We are staying for 8 days in the Garden Grove area. What has been planned so far:

- Angels afternoon game

- Huntington Beach (lunch at Dukes possibly)

- Long Beach Aquarium

- Queen Mary

- my favorite shopping malls (Irvine Spectrum, South Coast Plaza)

Any ideas that will accommodate 3 teen boys + grandpa? Went to La Brea Tar Pits on our last trip 2 months ago, drove through Beverly Hills.

Thanks!

We will also be going to the Citadel Outlets.

Would Santa Monica Pier be a good choice, too far of a drive from Garden Grove area?

Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm are must do's. I would also do a whale watching tour out of Newport with Davey's Locker or the aquarium in Long Beach, we saw blue whales last week. http://www.daveyslocker.com/ I searched and found a coupon for a $13 per person tour.

Also in Huntington Beach consider Fred's Mexican Cafe with huge 1 lb burritos for the teens, we took two 16 year olds there last week, loved it. www.fredsmexicancafe.com .

Maybe some surfing lessons or buy a kite at the shop on the pier. Visit Jack's Surfboards.

Try In-n-Out, 5 Guys Burgers and TK's Burgers (all recommended by teens +)

Let's see, Knott's Berry is a nice one day experience, They also offer a seniors discount. Close to the Garden Grove area.

Would a Dinner show interest them? There are three near the Garden Grove area, Battle of the Dance, Medieval Times and the Pirate's Dinner Adventure.

Maybe check out the Block of Orange Mall near Garden Grove, lots to see and do, a Shoppertainment mall with some outlet stores in the mall.

Here is a link to the Orange County Tourism Bureau, which will list a lot of activities in the area.

One more idea, maybe a day on Catalina Island. The Catalina Flyer leaves from the Newport Beach/Balboa Pier area.

If this trip is this summer, make sure the Angels tickets are in the shade. It will be very hot in the sun for a day game.

Knotts is a good idea. I would plan to take grandpa back to the hotel after he does the things he wants to do in the park, including lunch at Mrs. Knotts, so the teens can hit the thrill rides.

The harbor tour in Newport or renting a small boat and doing your own tour are both fun.

In Long Beach park near either the QM or Aquarium and use the water taxi for $1, very nice ride.

Also, you may want to post this question in the Orange County forum if you have not already.

How about the Peterson Automotive Museum in LA if you have not already seen it? Most teenage boys love cars and grandpa would probably like it also. Bit of a drive from OC but if you leave after rush hour would not be too bad and maybe work it in with some other attraction in that area?

If you are looking for an Automotive Museum closer to Garden Grove, the Marconi Automotive Museum is nice (though not as big as the Petersen). Located in Tustin near the junction of the 5 and 55 freeways.
