Hollywood/LA Restaurant with a Local Vibe (Monday night)

We are going to see Jay Leno and then a late night movie in Hollywood. We are looking for a restaurant (mid range to higher is ok) for dinner. We want one with a LA Vibe

For example, we like sashimi and sushi and love going to Geisha House in Hollywood. We've also had the tasters menu at Providence (wonderful).

We also like the Village Idiot on Melrose, but recently we have found the food not as good as before.

We would appreciate advise on a new restaurant in LA with a local vibe. We like all kinds of food, but would prefer a place that has some type of LA vibe (not a place you would find for example in San Francisco.)

its one of the reasons we like Geisha House as its got a different feel than our restaurants here.

We've been to Yamashiro and the views are wonderful - but for us that is a bit too touristy. If possible, we would like to try a newer restaurant with an LA/Hollywood vibe open on a Monday.

All suggestions are definitely appreciated (and if we do not go this time we will save for our next trip if several great suggestions).

Thanks.

note: Not looking for answers like on this post (i.e. check other web sites, etc.)

I am doing that as well - just want to know if you know a local restaurant you like that is worth looking at.....

If you like Geisha House go to Katsuya or Shintaro. For the ultimate, old school LA feel I'd go to Musso & Frank Grill.

Public Kitchen and Bar in the Hollywood Roosevelt is a mix of the old and new, another old school LA location, but a new restaurant.

Musso & Frank would be a great idea, but is closed Mondays.

A couple of ideas would be Hatfield's, Beso or Fig & Olive. Maybe Osteria Mozza or Pizzeria Mozza.

Little Dom's in Los Feliz comes to mind. A great place for lunch or dinner after visiting the Observatory in Griffith Park.

For the benefit of future people posting: Mini got a good specific answer because she asked a good specific question. She had a neighborhood in mind, a day of the week, cited restaurants she did and didn't like, and was seeking a certain quality in a restaurant. So people didn't have to answer in generalities, or make referrals.

I wouldn't call Fig and Olive an "LA vibe" place, it is "Manhattan vibe" place. It is also a but further west than you would like to be to see Leno.

Susan Feniger's STREET, Katsuya and Loteria are all LA originals with an LA vibe.

I second Loteria--reasonably priced, definitely an LA original, having grown up from a (still existing) stand at the Farmers Market.
