IMHO, both Super Shuttle and Prime Time Shuttle are equal. They are the two approved Shared Van services that can pick up people at random at LAX. The prices are the same, and would be the quickest way to get to San Pedro Cruise Terminal. (Of course, a taxi would be faster, but also more expensive).

I think the one major difference in Shared Van and similar services is the driver, so it is "luck of the draw", and any major company name on the door will give you about the same odds.

I'm with Dark. I'll add that it's rare that any service that is BEST would also be the one that is LEAST EXPENSIVE. (Wouldn't it be great if that were the case?).

All of the transfer options between LAX and the San Pedro Port are explained in our TOP QUESTIONS box (at the right side of this page). Once there, click on "Arriving / Departing in L.A." and scroll down to the discussion on ports. Btw, keep in mind that the word 'shuttle' doesn't really apply to the services provided by the above-mentioned companies since a shuttle is something that goes back and forth between 2 destinations on a regular schedule.

Prime Time & Super Shuttle are actually 'on demand' services that transport passengers when there is an accumulation of persons that wish to go to one particular place (or neighborhood). As a result, there can be delays while these transfer services attempt to 'fill up' their vans before departing.

If you don't wish to endure these delays, you can arrange for a PRIVATE van (rather than a 'shared van') which will take you to the port immediately but charge you more for this service.

I have heard of Zippy Shuttle, but the drawback si they can't "roam" LAX looking for customers (only Prime Time and Super Shuttle have that right). So you would have to call in advance, and "guess" a time you will arrive and have picked up your luggage. So many folks would add on 45 minutes to an hour, and you might be late, and miss your shuttle... or things go smoothly and you sit around for 30 minutes waiting for the shuttle.

So IMHO, it is better to just pick up your luggage, walk out of the main terminal to the "Shared Van" pick up zone (one at every terminal close to the luggage claim exit). And tell them you want to go to a specific location, and you should be picked up within a few minutes.

That's not how Zippy works. You tell them your flight and they track the flight. They don't obligate you to arrive when the flight is scheduled to arrive. When you land. you call them and they come over from the 'cell phone' parking area which is just a few minutes from the airport. Zippy gets great reviews but they only have PRIVATE van services. As far as Super shuttle getting bad reviews, keep in mind that Super Shuttle and Prime Time move 100s of thousands of passengers each year. The ones that are transferred with no problem (which are most of them) never post anything positive about their experiences. The ones that have bad experiences post negative reviews. It's to be expected.

"Every time we have cruised out of San Pedro, the cruise company(Royal Caribbean and Carnival)have provided meet/greet and shuttle service from LAX to the terminal"

I have a couple friends who do this during the week, there are some at each terminal. They get a schedule of arrivals from the Cruise Line, meets cruisers in baggage claim at LAX, holding up a paddle with cruise name, so you can't miss it. Then escorts you to your transportation to San Pedro. Sometimes it's a shuttle and sometimes a big bus. You pay for this service through the cruise line ahead of time.

One company you don't want to waste your time or money on is the Lotus Transportation Group. Their website states "Our promise to you is: We Will Never Make You Wait! You Will Always Get To Your Destination On Time! All rides are NON-STOP EXPRESS!" That statement is BOGUS.

Lotus Transportation Group had our arrival information therefore should have been at the terminal when we arrived ….NOT. After picking up our checked bag we walked outside the terminal looking for the Lotus Transportation Group and they were not there. We proceeded back inside to call and confirm a shuttle was coming…we were information it would be around 20 minutes. Long story short we waited for 50 minutes, we called several time and were told the driver was on his way. When he finally arrived he was not friendly because we had made the calls to dispatcher to report we were still waiting. Once we were in the van the driver received a call to pick up another passenger from a car rental location and told us it would be a quick stop. NOT! He drove around and around and used the excuse that his GPS took him to the wrong address, he then called the dispatcher several times complaining his GPS took him to the wrong address and the dispatcher was making suggestions of where it might be. We continued to drive around and around and several times he would stop and look down the block. Finally he stopped the van opened the door and said I will be back and if you have any complaints call dispatch; he then set out on foot to find the address. We did call to complain to the dispatcher but he just rambled on without an apology and since we were calling long distance it wasn’t worth listening to the excuses. After waiting 50 minutes at the airport and driving around for an hour looking for the rental car company we arrived at the cruise terminal. Total time from start to end was an hour and 50 minutes....never again and I would encourage anyone thinking of hiring this company to think again.
