Best Steak In LA?

I am coming to LA area next weekend. I have some friends visiting from Denmark. They asked if I could fly out and join them for the weekend, so I am coming out. My friend is interested in being taken to a restaurant where he can get a great American steak. So, I want to take my buddy to where he can get the best steak. The restaurant can be anywhere, LA, Santa Barbara, anywhere. Though I would appreciate a variety of suggestions. If they were coming to Ohio, the best steak in Dayton is the Pine Club, if I were to take them to Cincinnati, it would be the Jeff Ruby Steakhouse. But, in California, I have no idea. I would appreciate your suggestions.

He also mentioned an interest in some "trendy restaurants." Any thoughts/suggestions.

Thanks for all help and suggestions

Mastros or Cut have the best steak in town. For trendy and great look into Animal, Ink, Mozza and Picca.

Get some good steaks - and a barbecue

and have a beach barbecue (if the weather is good).

The best steak is one you cook yourself in an outdoor setting.

That said, the ones already mentioned are great steak houses to go to.

Personally I don't care for Mastro's steaks. The pricing was in the $30 to $40 range for the entree only.

Maestro and Cut are very good. I'd add BLT in West Hollywood to the list, have always had great meals there.

Cut is about 75/person, Mastros is about 60/person. Boa is not as good, but it's very hip and happening, so you could satisfy the steak and scene craving in one go.

Nick and Stef's, Pacific Dining Car, The Palm West Hollywood, BOA, La Bistecca, Jar, Taylor's Steakhouse, Fleming's, Arnie Morton's, Cut, Wolfgang's, Mastro's, Craft, Arroyo Chophouse, Ruth's Chris, BLT.... each is going to have its fans. I think Cut is the best, but for a visitor to Los Angeles from Denmark there is no doubt I'd take them to Musso & Frank. It is a classic LA restaurant with great food.

The price range mentioned above for Mastro's is a tiny bit misleading. Their pricing is a la carte and to leave there without a $200 for 2 people is like their steaks.....rare.

Overall....their food is very good yet I feel it's a little overpriced.

P.S. I have never been to their LA location, just the one here in Thousand Oaks,

The other suggestions by Scott are excellent also.
