LAX to Simi Valley - scenic route suggestions?

We are arriving LAX around 11 a.m. on a Thurs. - then spending 2 nights in Simi Valley to attend a function at the Reagan Library on Friday. No need for us to hurry to our Simi Valley hotel on Thurs. as we'll have all day and evening Friday - before departing to the Cambria/Morro Bay area on Saturday on our way to Carmel, Sun to Tues.

Looking for suggested scenic route and stops on our drive from LAX to Simi Valley.

thanks!

From LAX, take Lincoln Blvd to the 10 freeway west. Stay on 10 until it ends and becomes highway 1 headed north. You can stay on Highway 1 until you come to one of the canyon roads (Topanga Canyon Blvd., Malibu Canyon Road, Kanan Dume Road). which you'll head north on to the 101 freeway. You'll head east (but signage may refer to it as north) on the 101 to the 23 freeway which you'll take north. Eventually the 23 heads west as the 118 freeway which passes through Simi Valley.

Highway 1 will take you past the coast and through Malibu, while you'll get to see some good scenery on one of the canyon roads up to the 101 freeway. Then the 23 and the 118 pass through some interesting rocky areas.

Just a note about MachThree's directions: Lincoln Blvd. is quite ugly until you get to where the 10 becomes highway 1. It's a good 5 miles of strip malls and car repair shops, but don't despair - it gets better!

One more thing about Mach's directions.....

"...You'll head east (but signage may refer to it as north) on the 101 ..." Actually, you head west (but the signage may say north).....in fact the sign ONLY says North.

"...Eventually the 23 heads west ..." Actually it heads East

The intersting rock formations are also past the Simi Valley area along the edge of the San Fernando Valley. These rock formations were in many movies and TV shows, including the Twilight Zone and Star Trek

I spent the last month driving to and fro on Lincoln Blvd. to a doctor's office, once a week. I was thinking, it sure is ugly, crowded with traffic, even at lunch time. Is this what people deal when they head to SM from LAX? Almost make me want to tell them to take the freeway.
