Bus from Holiday Inn Express, Century city to Union Station"

Could someone help please - what is the easiest way to get from Holiday Inn Express Hotel, Olympic Boulevard , Century City to Union Station Los Angeles. Just trying to work out how long i will need to get from hotel to main train station.

Need to catch either the 6.15 or 7.15 train from Union station to Santa Fe station in San Diego.

Thank you.

Have you looked at our TOP QUESTIONS box at the right side of this page? There, you'll see a link titled "Public Transit vs Driving". Click on it and you'll see an explanation of how to look up public transit routes between any 2 points.

Your headline asks for a bus yet the body of your message asks for the easiest way. I'll address both of these:

1. The easiest way is to take a taxi which will cost $50 to $60 but will be the most direct, most comfortable and the easiest.

2. Bus routes and transfer times will vary based upon the day of the week that you're traveling and the time of day. You can look up the routes yourself as mentioned above by providing this info. In general, though, the #728 Metro Bus covers this route and takes about an hour (give or take).

Another option is to take a 'shared van' from prime time shuttle (redvans.com). Their website is hard to navigate because it includes the Union (rail) station in the list of AIRPORTS and treats it like an airport, asking for the time of your FLIGHT. Here are the steps:

1. Select 'one way' to the AIRPORT

2. From the 'select your AIRPORT' drop down menu, select "LA UNION STATION -- AMTRAK"

3. Select your hotel from the "Hotel" drop down menu.

The cost is $36 and it's 'door to door'. This is probably the best compromise between a taxi and the bus.

By bus you'd need to walk about 10 minutes to Olympic & Century Park East, and catch the 728 to Union Station. At this early hour, the trip takes 45-50 minutes, though you'd want to allow time to make the transfer at Union Station, which is large. For the 6:15 train, you'd want to catch the bus that leaves the stop before at 5:02 and gets to Union Station at 5:49. The next trip doesn't get there until 6:10, which is not enough time to buy tickets and make the transfer.

On the other thread about this, people suggested you not try to go to San Diego as a day trip, and I agree. Give it an overnight at least.

So here is what I said in the other thread, and it all still holds true.

If I understand, you intend to go to San Diego, for the DAY from Century City, using the train?

You are coming from Australia, with jet lag, and you want your first day to start at 4:30AM (so you can get up, shower, etc), catch a bus to Union Station (60 minutes?), ride the train for almost 3 hours, run around San Diego all day, take a 3 hour train ride back to downtown LA and then another long bus ride back?

That is 8 hours of travel time on a day you are likely to be exhausted from the day before.

You really need to carefully consider if this is a good idea.

However, if you really want to do it, you can plot this out using Google Maps.
