Thanksgiving is Thursday the 22nd.

I would not expect anything in Las Vegas to be closed! That is a city that is open 24/7!

You'll have to check your hotel prices as each city is different.

NYC is usually the most expensive but then it is always expensive there!!

Some theme parks may be more crowded that week as some schools have the whole week off.

You are only allowing 1 day for the drive down the coast and that will be a long one as many people spend 1 night on the way down to allow for more time for stopping along the way.

Remember to think layers when you pack your clothing as the temps will be chilly or cold for much of the time.

If driving to Vegas on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I would get a very early start.

Traffic will be very heavy on that route.....

Most of the major Tourist Attractions, such as Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios and Knott's Berry Farm will be open. Many museums will be closed. Most Restaurants will be open, but some might only be serving a limited menu, based on Thanksgiving food favorites. A few stores are open, but most are closed.

You haven't given yourself enough time for anything. I suggest not going to Vegas and enjoying LA, because you won't get there until Thursday if you're leaving San Francisco and driving the coast. You've given yourself no time in SF, not even a day (traveling from NY to SF takes a full day), and it takes two days to get to LA by car along the coast.

Drop Vegas. Especially don't drive there on the Friday after Thanksgiving. If you cannot change your flight to leave out of LAX instead of Vegas, drop LA and drive to Vegas from SF.

Hmm food for thought, all we want to see in SAn FRan is the bridge, main purpose is the drive along the coast to LA

We wer hoping to set off early, will it really take 2 days to drive down the coat to LA?

You can do the coastal drive in one day (pant! pant!) but the point of the drive is to see the coast. If you just want to 'get to L.A.', there are hourly flights from the SF-area (viz, OAK -- Oakland airport) to both LAX (L.A. International Airport) and BUR (Bob Hope Airport) -- the 'Luton of Los Angeles'. Look for flights at southwest.com (the EasyJet of the U.S.).

L.A. is extremely spread out (not unlike London)

Bottom line, you're trying to do too much in too short a time.

Of all of the places that are most compact (requiring the least amount of driving), Las Vegas is at the top of the list. Yet, you've provided a longer stay in LV than anywhere! You could definitely shave off a day from LV. And/or, consider dropping off the car in L.A. (LAX or BUR) and flying to LV (flights are about an hour and you don't need to be at the departing airport more than 1 hour before flight time). Upon arrival in LV, it's only a 5 to 10 minute drive from the airport to the hotel zone.

In regards to Thanksgiving Day, the Wednesday is pretty much a normal day. The day after is known in the US as "Black Friday", where many stores open early and have major sales. Besides that, things are fairly normal, some folks get the day off work (a 4 day weekend), but that has no real impact unless you want to deal with the government.
