No, there are no trains on the west side of L.A. (where LAX is). The closest train station is in downtown L.A. which is northeast of LAX. There is an express bus from LAX called the Union Station Flyaway Bus which runs every 30 minutes and takes between 35 and 60 minutes to reach the station (depending on traffic). From there, it's a 3 hour amtrak train ride to SD

It gets confusing because on the Amtrak site the train station in LA is called LAX BUT it is NOT the airport!

As said, no there are no trains at the airport, but it is very easy and common for people to take the Fly-a-way Bus to Union Station (also called LAX in the Amtrak world as Riff said) to catch the train to SAN (again, Amtrak using the airport code, but the train and airport are two miles apart).
