Please advise if we should arrive in LAX or BUR from San Jose if we are staying at Sheraton downtown and dont plan to rent a car.
LAX is probably easier.
Actually, BUR is easier as there is a rail station at BUR with 25-minute trains into downtown. Also, BUR is a much smaller airport -- easier to get through.
Thanks for the reply..thinking of taking the airport shuttle to hotel as we are travelling with kids..works out to to around $50..how much shud it be by cab??
From which airport?
LAX to downtown sheraton will be a fixed rate of about $47 by cab plus a tip for the driver. The cost is going to be about the same from Bob Hope but its not a fixed rate, so if traffic is heavy it could be a bit more money.
Tks hotel website says cab shud cost 70 usd for taxi from both airports...where can we get prepaid cabs in lax??
You need to google "car services Los Angeles" or "shuttle services Los Angeles" to get a prepaid, fixed price deal. There are lots. I don't know your hotel, SuperShuttle is one that comes to mind (although...it's not a taxi and it doesn't arrive as promptly as I'd like). "Car services" will get you a driver that picks you up for a preset fee.
It really helps if you decide which airport you're using, first, because "Car services Burbank" will get you different results. Not every single result will be the kind of thing you want, but most of them will be.
Thanks for your replies
If you land at BUR, the train ride into downtown L.A. costs $27 for all of you. I'm not sure why you feel that having kids with you would prompt you to take an 'airport shuttle' to your hotel rather than the train. First, be aware, that 'an airport shuttle' doesn't simply go from the airport to your hotel. (It's not really a 'shuttle' because it can stop at other hotels before going to yours. This means that it can take a while for the van to reach your hotel, especially since it might take time for the van to fill up with passengers who want to head into downtown.
When you arrive at Union (rail) station in downtown, you can either take the metro rail to the 7th St Station ($6 for the 4 of you plus a $1 fee per person for the TAP CARD that you'll need to buy on which to store your fare). The Sheraton is literally on top of the 7th St Station. The metro rail ride takes 5 minutes and the trains run every 6 minutes.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Union Station to the hotel. The drive is about 2 miles and takes 5 minutes WITHOUT TRAFFIC. During low traffic periods (midday or on the weekends), the fare will be about $12 including tip.
A PRIVATE van from super shuttle would be 'door to door' and cost $79. A private sedan would cost $82. A regular taxi is an option as well. Tell the driver to take Hollywood Way to the 101 freeway south to the 110 freeway south to your hotel. The ride is a little over 14 miles and will cost (WITHOUT TRAFFIC) approximately, $50 including tip and take about 30 minutes. WITH TRAFFIC, the vans, cars and taxis will take longer and the fare for the taxi will be higher. The train is not affected by traffic.
Thanks for the input. ..I am considering taking the regular taxi from Burbank.. $50 is still in our budget..the convenience is worth it....we wil be arriving on friday night from San Jose..what time shud we reach LA in order to avoid the peak hour traffic??
