Well, it's a tough question to answer. Do you have a time constraint to arrive in AZ? Do you want a quick route or care about any sites along the way? Also, WHY do you want to avoid Pasadena...is something going on there tomorrow?
By the time you get to Pasadena the rush hour traffic would be over. I don't think you'll encounter anything more than the usual LA traffic.
We would like to arrive in Scottsdale as quickly as possible, the shortest and fastest way. Someone suggested this route
101 to 23 ( thousand oaks)
Turns into 118 about 6 miles until it ends
Turn right to 210 stay until it ends
Our goal is to avoid slow traffic . Good to know we will miss the big jams at that time of the day
101->23->118->210->10 route is the one to take. If you have a smartphone, install and use the Waze app as it will reroute you in the event of a major traffic issue.
The 118 going into the SF Valley can be heavy and slow. Your saving grace there is the free carpool lane which begins at the East end of Simi Valley. Take that if you need to and you may save a few minutes.
Also, keep your AM radio tuned to KNX 1070 or KFWB 980 for frequent traffic updates. You'll get those stations as you get through Ventura.
