Nearest hotel to Los Angeles Airport (LAX) & shuttle service

We have a 12-hour layover in LAX on our way to our final destination. What hotels are closes to LAX. Wouldn't mind walking it since we will only have carry on luggage. Also, what shuttle service is most reliable and affordable. Thank you in advance.

The Raddison is the closest. It is actually on the airport grounds. Only two shuttle operators are allowed at LAX. SuperShuttle and Prime Time shuttle.

The TravelLodge near LAX seems to be well received here on TA. According to their website, they have shuttle pick-up from LAX.

Are you looking for a different shuttle service to get you to some sightseeing? You can make easy trips to Manhattan Beach, a small beach town three miles south of LAX or 7 miles north of it is Santa Monica, a bustling beach city with lots of restaurants and pedestrian activities at the 3rd St. Promenade. A taxi to Manhattan Beach would be inexpensive. It's about $30.00 to Santa Monica, but alternatively you can take the Big Blue Bus from Lot C at the airport, which will get you directly to downtown Santa Monica for $1.00 per person.

The airport area doesn't have a lot going for it, either the above will give you something to do for a few hours.

There are numerous hotels that all have shuttle service to LAX and all are within a 5 minute ride of the terminals. The Radisson is indeed the closest but many others are only slightly further - these would include the Crowne Plaza, Sheraton Gateway, Four Points Sheraton, LAX Hilton, LAX Renaissance, LAX Marriott, LAX Westin, and the LAX Embassy Suites "North". A couple notable hotels are a bit further away, but not by that much - these include the Embassy Suites "South" and The Custom Hotel.

It helps if you can be a little more specific. Do you intend to spend your entire time at the hotel or do you intend to look at some tourist sites? What time are you landing? Is it an international flight? What time are you departing? Is it an international flight?

Here is information for the Ocean Express Shuttle if you choose to take a ride to the beach for a few hours, and stretch your legs on a walk out on the pier, or do a llittle shopping.

Choose any of the hotels above for a pick up and drop off. It's $5 pp round trip.

I think I stayed at the Radisson because I was surprised at how quiet it was being so close to the airport. I got a really good price off Hotwire or similar website.

I second the vote for the Travelodge, though I haven't tried the others, daughter stayed at Holiday Inn Express a couple of years ago and loved it. All the hotels have free shuttles from LAX so that isn't an issue.

You haven't said if your 12 hour layover is day or night.

Travelodge offer a day layover from 9.30 am for 12 hours for I think around $50. They also offer early check in for normal bookings from 9.30 am which is why we stayed there, though our flight was delayed and instead of landing at 7.30 am we landed at 3 pm, but no probs, except we lost our first day in LA!! If you love 60.70's kitsch it is great, though their beds are definitely new :)

To get the best advice you need to address the question about what time you are checking in. If you are looking for a day rate (ie if you arrive in the morning) then the choices are more limited, vs arriving sometime in the afternoon or evening.

As mentioned above, many hotels near the airport run a free shuttle. You do not need to use Supershuttle or PrimeTime shuttle. Just look on the hotel website (or on expedia, etc) and they will say which hotels offer free shuttle.

If you want to do more than stay locked up in a hotel room for 12 hours I would look into El Segundo or Manhattan Beach. The Travelodge is one of the day rate hotels but read the reviews, it is apparently not soundproofed so if you are hoping to actually sleep it may not be the best choice. It also isn't in the greatest neighborhood.

We stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton near LAX. Not really walkable but they do have shuttle service to and from the airport. Wouldn't necessarily recommend this hotel though. Not really up to par as the Four Points chain used to be.
