Recommendations for pre cruise stay from San Pedro in March

Are there any hotels offering free shuttle to the port, or what are recommendations for a hotel that would be close. Thanks!

Tom - hello and welcome to the forums. The answer to this question would depend on the length of your stay. San Pedro will be a convenient place to stay the night before the cruise, so if you are just flying in on day one, spending the night and then the cruise departs on day two, look to San Pedro. The Crowne Plaza there is a popular choice.

If you are going to be here longer than that, however, and are looking to see some of LA, then San Pedro is not such a convenient base since its far from the main, touristy parts of the city and public transit links from San Pedro to those parts of the city are lengthy and time consuming.

Please give us some details about your itinerary - how long you'll be here, will you rent a car (sounds like no?) and what your per night hotel budget is.

We are going to stay either one or two nights before cruise. Because of air fares from the east coast, flying two days early may work out better. We plan on using Marriott rewards for free rooms. Any recommendations regarding Marriott?

For Marriott points, and assuming that you'd arrive one night before and would be looking to stay near the cruise port, I'd look at the Renaissance in Long Beach which is not too far from the port in San Pedro. There's also a regular Marriott in Long Beach which is not as well located.

For two nights, you might want to stay to the north in the main parts of LA and head to the port the day of the cruise. In this case, if you don't rent a car I'd look at Le Merigot (a JW Marriott) in Santa Monica or the JW Marriott in downtown LA. In fact, I'd probably look first at those two even if you do rent a car. Other Marriott's include the one in Marina Del Rey and at LAX - I wouldn't stay at either without a car and would only consider them if they're less points than the other two.
