Thanksgiving LA and Hollywood

Hi guys,

My family are traveling from Australia and arrive Thanksgiving Day morning. We are staying at the Hollywood orchid suites. Can you tell me what will be open or what is there to do in and around Hollywood for tourists on that day? Is there anything that you recommend we should not miss? We were going to take the HO HO bus but according to their website they are running on a different timetable and haven't published it? ????

Also, if possible recommendations on where to eat near where we are staying? We are now thinking of going to universal studios on Thanksgiving but are unsure of the crowds and public transport.

Thank you in advance for any help, those who input on TA are legends and they have helped heaps with planning our trip.

Public transit should be running, on a holiday (reduced) schedule - see www.metro.net. Universal Studios is a good idea for this day if you aren't too jet lagged and can arrive there before it gets too late in the day. Unfortunately most things will be closed - movie theaters and theme parks will be open. Many restaurants will be open.

First, we have a 40% chance of rain on Thursday. We aren't a city that does rain very well, so my recommendations are based on good weather.

You can take a look around Hollywood - the walk of fame, hand and foot prints, have lunch in the area (try the traditional turkey and stuffing meal, you'll be full for the entire day). In the evening, get up to Griffith Observatory for the views.

Another option would be catch a bus to Santa Monica, where the pier is expected to be fully operational.

Universal Studios is opened that day until 9:00 pm, so that is yet another option if your family has the energy to tackle it the day you arrive.

Here is the monthly calendar for CityWalk, the mall at Universal Studios Hollywood.

It is open 11AM to 9PM on Thanksgiving Day and the theaters will be open later than that. You don't need to go into the theme park, you can just bop around the mall, see a movie, shop, eat, go bowling, etc.
