Late night dining

Looking for late night dining. Week long stay for work but picking wife up on late flight ( 9pm) Thursday. No sushi, but somewhere from lax to Sherman Oaks that is unique, LA, or fun but not so trendy that we can't get in. Steak, burgers, pasta, old school. Anyone

She lands at 9 or she'll be standing in front of the terminal at 9? If the latter, you might try Palomino in Westwood -- about a 25 minute drive from LAX in the westwood neighborhood on the way to Sherman Oaks. They close at 10 pm so if she's going to be in baggage claim for a while, this won't work.

Another option, less than 10 minutes from LAX is the Promenade Mall at Howard Hughes Center which has a number of restaurants open until 10 pm. Islands is a fun place but certainly not fancy. (It's a chain but has decent hamburgers). http://www.islandsrestaurants.com/

Just 3 minutes north of LAX is Truxtons which is also open until 10:

I worked odd hours when I lived in West LA. These are right off the 405:

Johnnie's Pastrami on Sepulveda just south of Venice in Culver City is an old school deli with huge and yummy sandwiches open till 2:30a on Thursday.

Cinco de Mayo literally just down the street on Sepulveda (but technically on Washington Place) is a greasy spoon serving Mexican and American comfort food. 24 hours. Great chille relleno, tacos, and 24 hour breakfast.

For the hipper but not too trendy, The Alibi Room (technically a bar) is open till 2am. But you should check or someone can verify here if food is served till closing. This is Roy Choy's place where you can get the Kogi food truck items in a brick and mortar place.

Good list Elle! From that list, I would recommend Apple Pan on Pico too. They have great burgers and of course apple pie. You sit around an old school diner counter.

Man I miss my LA joints. I have stories about eating at BCD in K-town in the middle of the night that I have to take to my grave. :p

BCD? Yum! Forget the Pepto though - Soon Dofu extra spicy please and stand clear cause I'll be eating Korean fire lava and breathing flames....

LOL Mach... at least it's just from above amd not below.

OP - sorry to hijack for little fun. Hope you try some of these. You asked for LA original. LA has some of the best Korean food outside Korea. BCD is tofu soup. Can be made non spicy too. Adventurous enough to try? I usually the combo meal which has smaller bowl of tofu with the BBQ beef short ribs. The meal comes with rice and lots of small plates of pickled veggies and other small dishes.
