LA itinerary and hotel advise!

Hi, we are a family of three with a 3 year old boy. We arrive LA at 9pm from SF by Amtrak on Feb 18 and our primary goal this time around is to visit the Disneyland and see the Hollywood sign. We will be in the city for 3 days. We will not be driving and would like to use public transport. Would like to seek your itinerary advise and recommendations on safe & budget friendly hotels given our interests and late arrival time into LA. Is it necessary to stay near the Disneyland? How far is Disneyland from downtown/proper LA? Any other must sees.Thank you!

You have a few things you may want to consider...

Since your taking along a 3 year old, you may want to stay in one place. Anaheim may make the most sense, as you can take the train to the LA area. Its about a 1 hour drive from LA to Anaheim, and a little longer on the Train. You can also just take a Tour from the Anaheim area to the LA area for the day through something like Grayline Tours if all you want to see in LA is the Hollywood sign and take a look around for the day.

You could also stay in the LA area and take a day tour to Disneyland as well. However, its more likely Imo that you would want to just be able to rest at a Hotel after walking all day around Disneyland and it would be nice to be close just across the street from Disneyland rather than trying to take a train back when you are already tired.

You can also consider multiple days at Disneyland as there are 2 Parks located directly across from each other so easy to hop back and forth to each Park. You can easily take up 2 or 3 days just visiting Disneyland as there is so much to do and see, and multiple days will alow you to take things at a slower pace.So it really just depends on what may interest you most.

If you decide you want to stay in Anaheim, you can post in that forum along with a budget per night for a place to stay, and we can help you find something.

I'll disagree.

If a three year old can endure traveling from Asia to California, he can withstand staying overnight in L.A. and then changing to a hotel in Anaheim. And, it makes the most sense to do it this way because the train you'll be traveling on will stop in Los Angeles before reaching Anaheim so why bypass L.A. only to have to return to it, the next day?

Stay overnight in downtown L.A. Look at hotels like the Omni. the Luxe City Center, the L.A. Athletic Club (it's a hotel!).

In the morning., take the red line metro rail to the Hollywood/Highland Station (15-20 minutes, $1.50 per person) and make your way to the rear of the Hollywood & Highland Center Mall (the red line station is below the mall) and you'll have a fine view of the Hollywood sign. Stroll around Hollywood; check out the Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, etc. You can take a tour of the city from Starline tours (their ticket booth is in the courtyard of the chinese Theater). Many tours leave at 9:00 but others (the shorter ones) leave frequently throughout the day. Here is the schedule:
