Palm Springs to LAX

We're enjoying a beautiful weekend in Palm Springs but unfortunately it's time to think about a plan for heading back home.

We have a 1 pm flight out of LAX Monday. In the interest of avoiding horrendous rush hour traffic, is it better to leave early and hangout in LA...or leave later and head straight to the airport? The main goal is to minimize sitting in traffic. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!

It helps a lot if you include your city or country of residence with your screen name as this will help us to help you. In this particular case, since we don't know where 'home' is, we don't know if you're meeting a domestic flight or an international one. AS a result, we don't know how early you need to be at the airport.

To include this info, click on 'your tripadvisor' at the top of the page and edit your profile.

That said, L.A. rush hour winds down around 9:30. The drive from Palm Springs to LAX (WITHOUT TRAFFIC) -- takes 2-1/2. If you're departing on an international flight, you'll need to be at the airport about 2-1/2 hours in advance -- so, 10:30. That means a departure time of around 8:00 assuming 'no traffic' but there will be some traffic around PS, so I'd leave around 7:30.

If you're departing domestically, you don't need to be at the airport more than 90 minutes in advance so that's a departure time from PS of 9:00.

That is going to be ugly leaving at that time.

If you want to beat morning commute traffic you will need to leave very early, like 4:30 to 5 am.

Leaving after 9 am might be better but it's cutting it a bit too close for comfort.
