Tipping - a few specific queries please?

Hi, could anyone please clarify the following regarding tipping:

1) Pre-arranged and pre-paid (via travel agent) coach transfer from Airport to Hotel - do we still tip?

2) Private car/driver to take us from hotel to Staples Centre and back booked through hotel - do we still tip?

3) Taxi fares

4) Pre paid Bus tour of Hollywood sights - tip the tour guide?

Thanks :)

Yes, tips are never part of the pre-paid anything.

I tip taxis 10-15%, but mostly just round up, meaning, for example, if the taxi ride was $12.50, I give $15 and don't ask for change.

If the shuttle driver helps with your bags, $5-10 depending on how many bags.

If the private car hire takes you from Hollywood to Staples and back. I'd probably tip $20.

A two hour tour guide, $5-10, depends on how good they are.

Actually, check with your travel agent on this... private car and driver rates sometimes include tips. Otherwise, pre-payment just covers the basic service, and not generally the tips.

If tips are included in any pre-paid services, it would be STATED PLAINLY in the paperwork. If it's not in the paperwork, you'll need to tip.

$5 - $10 sounds like an awful lot to tip for the shuttle from airport to hotel. We usually tip $2 for two of us - we notice many folks don't tip at all.

So we are getting a free hotel shuttle from LAX to a nearby hotel - do we need to tip? I wasn't planning on having got any US$ at that point ...

Lissie - Your question brings up another question. I just came back from Europe and I realize how expensive it is to do foreign exchange in the US. Have you investigated whether it makes sense to get some dollars before you come here, or is it better for you to use a bank ATM here?

I never know what to do with the free airport shuttle. I normally don't tip unless I have a heavy bag, and then it would be a dollar per bag.
