another where to stay in LA question. sorry

Just coming to the last 4 days of our trip of the west. The abundance of info is quite mind boggling on where to stay in los angeles. Naturally i have read a lot of the forums, google searches and books but seem to meet with contrasting views. Would be looking to visit Warner brothers studios, Griffith observatory, the Getty center, rodeo drive, Hollywood walk Of fame, Venice beach and Santa monica. Have a car and realise traffic can be an issue. Considering splitting the 4 nights to make travel easier. Quiet and safe accommodation obviously preferable. Maximum looking to spend is $160 per night, though obviously would like to keep costs down where possible.

Any expert suggestions much appreciated

Thank you

Don't split in LA. At your budget look in the West Hollywood area first, then Hollywood.

Based on your itinerary, you might want to focus on LAs west side. Look at hotels in the area of The Grove (Farmer's Daughter is one), West Hollywood and Westwood. Include Century City, with the caveat that many hotels there are not very walkable in terms of going out to eat, etc. Hollywood is always an option, too. If you want to be in Santa Monica, you may find something away from the beach - look at the Comfort Inn on Santa Monica or TravelLodge on Pico as well as the SeaShore motel on Main St. Finally, check Marina del Rey. It puts you close to Venice (Abbot Kinney Blvd. is very popular and trendy for dining and shopping) and Santa Monica and can be a nice base with a rental car. Again, you might need to drive to restaurants in the evenings.

What are your travel dates? (Hotel prices change from month to month and between weekdays and weekends). Hotels charge a 'room tax' of about 15% on top of the 'room rate' and most charge for overnight parking ($10 to $30 -- or more) /night.

From your other thread, it would appear that you're arriving TODAY in L.A. and departing on March 28. Is that true? That doesn't give you much time; plus room rates will be high. You might want to try a discounter like hotwire.com

For 24-28 Mar, Hotwire.com is showing the following unnamed hotels (they don't identify the hotel until you book but they DO provide info about the property including 'approximate location'):

1. A 4-star hotel in "Beverly Hills-West Hollywood" with pool and fitness center for $189 (plus tax plus parking). This could be any number of 4-stars on the west side of L.A. including the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

2. A 3-star in Century City-Westwood for $159 (most probably, this is the Holiday Inn Express West Los Angeles).

HilgardHouse.com

WilshireCrestHotel.com

ParkPlazaLodgeHotel.com

Those should all work okay with that itinerary and in that budget range.
