Universal Studios - “Buy a Day, get a Year Free” ticket

On Mousesavers.com it says you can buy this ticket, have it validated when you visit the park, then come out and enter again with your group and they all get $12.00 off their ticket price. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the "running around"? How long to get in and out and in again!!! We are not visiting until October 2014 but would love any advice or help with this. Also understand 10-15% discount on food & drink with this ticket and as it is the same price as a one day entry ticket......is it worth it? Thanks for your help!

It is the same as a one day ticket only if you haven't found any other discounts for those one day tickets.

And it could take maybe an hour to go through the hassle of signing up for the year pass, you wait in line, they have to take your photo, they give you a sales-gimmick song and dance while you wait for your card etc.

Thanks HaroldnMaude - thought that might be the case - bit like NOT buying Timeshare for the free meal you got! Not really worth the effort! Appreciate your feedback!

HaroldnMaude - Notice you're from Las Vegas - we are spending four nights there when we fly into the US. Any MUST-Dos!?

We have all been before but not for some years!! Thanks

You buy your voucher online and then take it to the processing center to the left of the front gates. It depends how long the line is at the processing center as to how long it will take. If you get there a bit prior to opening maybe it will not be to long. I believe it is a finger scan and not a picture. There was no sales gimmick either. I have had an annual pass/season pass at Universal off and on for a lot of years and have never experienced what was described above about a sales pitch. You also get a discount on merchandise. This might be worth it depending on how many additional tickets you need and how much food/drinks/shopping you do.

No longer do you have to go to a processing center, you buy the pass, and at the turnstiles, they will take a fingerprint image (same as Six Flags and SeaWorld), and tha6 is how they will allow reentry, no photos, no processing center, makes life easier on everyone. You go online to register your contact info after your visit.

As mentioned above, no sales gimmick..

So do they use the online print out as the entry ticket or do you get a card sized ticket at the gate?

I bought my last pass at Costco and I think what they gave us in the store was the actual pass and I used it for entry right away and did the finger scan. It was not explained to go online and register the pass. However, we went to deal with a lost pass at the processing center on a subsequent visit and we were told they were making everyone go to the processing center on the first visit and requiring registration on the first day of admission due to problems with people not registering the passes online and then loosing them. Anyway, what they do changes on occasion.

To the OP, you must buy the Buy a Day get a Year ticket online unless you live in SoCal. If you are a Costco member you may want to check back in with the forum closer to your date and someone may know if they are offering the Universal pass, it is often the cheapest deal around.

Just like Disneyland, Universal Studios has ticket printers at the turnstiles, so you take your online ticket printout and take it directly to the turnstiles, where they will print your pass. If you ordered the Front of the Line Pass, they also have those at the turnstiles, and will hand you one when you enter..
