Universal Studios January 2nd 2015

Will universal studios be very busy on Friday January 2nd?

Will we need front of line passes?

We will likely not get there till midday as this is the day we arrive in LA.

Is it likely to have extended hours that day?

Thanks so much for your help...

Yes, it is Peak Winter Break, most schools are off, the major events of the Rose Bowl Parade and the Rose Ball Game on Jan. 1st nearby bring a lot of visitors, who will be looking to do something on the 2nd.

I would want to have Front of the Line Passes bought in advance, and get there as soon as I could. And yes, the closing hours should be extended. (Universal is in the midst of planning an evening Backlot Tour that will be somewhat different the daytime tour, to help expanded its hours in general, as many guests have complained about they haven't seen enough of the park before closing.

I would look to do something else on your arrival day, and plan for a full day and evening at Universal Studios and the Universal CityWalk next door.

Jan. 2 will be one of the most crowded days of the year at all the theme parks. Not only is it themiddle of the winter season and all the students are off, since it's a Friday, many businesses will be giving their employees the extra day between New Year's and Saturday. Plus, it's the day after the Rose Parade, which is only about 15 miles to the east. Many people plan on adding Universal to their Rose Parade trip. I'm sure your plans are already made, but if y ou can change them to a few days later, you will have a much nicer stay.

You can always buy regular tickets, go into the park, and upgrade to Front of The Line passes if its really crowded. It doesn't cost you any more to get the FOL passes this way (total cost of regular tickets + upgrade = regular price of FOL passes).

Thanks for the replies unfortunately the only 2 days we are in LA are 2nd and 3rd of January due to work commitments elsewhere on the 4th. So we may have to brave the crowds.

Post #4 is no longer true, they adjust the price of the FotL pass in the park depending on the crowd level, so you can pay the same, or more, or find they are sold out inside the park, especially on a day like January 2nd. But it is now a daily thing, and the price does change as compared to the Main Ticket Windows or online. (Online seems to be the lowest currently).
