Week of July 1-6th 2014 What to do with Visiting Kids

My grandchildren will be visiting LA (West Valley) July 1-6. They are 10 and 14. What suggestions do you have. The 10 year old girl is very Hollywood, celebrity and music interested; the 14 year old boy is computer focused (as many 14 years olds are.)

4th of July concert with fireworks at the Hollywood Bowl (same concert is being performed on July 2 and 3 as well).

July 4th Angels baseball game (Dodgers are out of town on the 4th).

Grammy museum in downtown LA at LA Live.

Stars home tour or TMZ tour.

California Science Center to see the space shuttle.

Maybe possible to get a tour of Electronic Arts or another video game studio - try www.ea.com/outreach - there's an email link there to contact them.

A trip to Fry's Electronics for everything computer under the sun - just hold on to your wallets.

If you are in the west SF Valley, head down Kanan Dume to Zuma Beach.

How about a day in Hollywood checking out the sights...

Maybe a day at a nearby Theme Park, Knott's is the lowest price and fun for a day, but there are other options like Universal (Hollywood connection), Magic Mountain and Disneyland.

Welcome to TripAdvisor and the LA forum, mhglen. In addition to the great suggestions above, please take a look at the Things to Do tab at the top of this page. It, too, is full of ideas with reviews and links to websites.

Hollywood Bowl definitely. California Science Center sounds good too. Maybe go to Disney's El Capitan Theater for a special showing of Maleficent with a magic show before the movie. It is a huge, beautifully restored old movie house.

Combined with the movie you could see the forecourt of the Chinese Theater closeby (stars of old Hollywood such as John Wayne put their footprints and handprints in cement there) and part of the Walk of Fame.

For some reason, as a kid the Farmers Market made a big impression on me.

Santa Monica beach and the amusement park there. I would say Disneyland, but it will be very crowded. Still, if they have never been they may really want to go. I would avoid doing more than one theme park at this busy time.

Another idea is Griffith Park and Observatory (which is very much a part of the movie Rebel Without a Cause).

Broaden their interests with a trip to the Getty Center.
