Saturday car rental after 7pm - Union Station area.

I am arriving at Union station with my daughter and elderly mother on Saturday 5th July at 18.30 and we need to get directly out to Malibu. However all the car rental companies close at either 14/15.00 at the weekend (at least those in the immediate area). Taxi is an option but it is very expensive and we need to buy food on the way as we are traveling to a rental. Can anyone advise?

Its slightly out of the way but you can take the FlyAway bus from Union Station to LAX for $8 per person. The FlyAway bus will drop you at the upstairs arrival level of the terminals at LAX. If you then head downstairs you can get a shuttle bus to one of the rental car company's offices at the airport. The airport rental car companies will all be open at that time.

Alternatively, are you arriving at Union Station via train? You might want to consider booking the train to the Burbank airport station instead. The station here is just a platform but its walking distance to the airport terminals and from there you should be able to make your way to one of the rental car company locations at this airport. Again, all the rental car companies at the Burbank airport should be open at this time.

In general, the only place you will find rental car companies open at that hour on a Sunday evening is at the airports.

Ooops, I said Sunday instead of Saturday but the same still applies.

Are you arriving by bus to Union Station? I cannot locate a train arriving at that time. In either case, where are you coming from?

Tough to find off-airport locations open in the evenings, and your train could be late. If coming from the north, you could disembark at the Burbank Airport station, take the shuttle to the airport (close enough to walk if you don't have many bags), and rent a car there until at least 10 p.m. If coming from the south, you MAY be able to connect with the Pacific Surfliner to the same station from Union Station. Not sure about any station close to John Wayne Airport (Orange County Airport). Unfortunately, it does not appear that Metrolink trains on that line (Ventura line) run on Saturday (www.metrolinktrains.com).

Flyaway bus to LAX not a bad option. When you get off at the airport, you take the shuttle bus for your particular rental car company.

Can you exit the Amtrak a couple of stops up at Burbank airport instead of Union Station?
