Stuck at hotel by LAX

I am at an event with my daughter at the Embassy Suites for four days. I did not realize it is so far removed from everything. Since we don't have a car, how do we get to see some if the sights? What do you suggest? My daughter is only 6. Thank you!

Get on the Starline Hop On Hop Off Tour. It will either pick you up at your hotel or you can take a taxi to Fisherman's Village in Marina del Rey and pick it up there.

Getting around by bus is inconvenient (unless you can get to Lincoln Blvd. & get into Santa Monica). Getting around solely by taxi is going to be very expensive.

Good luck!

Inquire at the hotel desk about transportation to Manhattan Beach Pier and Santa Monica Pier (Palisades Playland). Those will be easiest and most fun for a 6 year old from your hotel.

Take a $20 taxi to the Santa Monica Pier and Tongva Park (they are across from each other)

What specific sites are you interested in seeing (our metro area is huge!). Which Embassy Suites (there are 2 near the airport).

A couple of random ideas:

a. If you return to the airport (using the hotel's free shuttle), you can transfer there to one of the Flyaway Buses:

i. The Union Station Flyaway will take you into downtown L.A. which is at the eastern end of our city -- not in the middle. From there, you can tour on foot or via the red line metro rail or join the downtown loop of the Hop On, Hop Off (HoHo) tour. The red line will also take you to Hollywood from Union Station in about 20 minutes.

ii. The Westwood Flyaway bus will take you to the Westwood neighborhood which is on the west side of our city. From there, you can reach Beverly Hills by bus (8 minutes) or Santa Monica by bus (25 minutes). There is also a HoHo stop near the Flyaway depot in Westwood so, for example, if you started early, you could take one flyaway into downtown, use the HoHo to explore and end up in Westwood where you could take the other Flyaway back to LAX. That would be a full day however so it's up to you whether the 6 year old can handle it.

It helps if you include your city of country of residence with your screen name as that will help us to answer your questions more effectively. Edit your profile to add this info.

If it is at all possible, I'd rent a car, public transit takes a long time especially with an impatient 6 year old.

Good news if you are staying at the Embassy Suites North off Century Blvd. as they are part of the Ocean Express Shuttle to Manhattan Beach, for $5 r/t. You get the ticket from the hotel front desk, and catch the shuttle out in front of the hotel.

If you are at the Embassy suites South, in El Segundo, you will have to take a cab or bus to Manhattan Beach.

There is a free hands on Marine Lab Aquarium at the end of the beautiful pier in MB. Lots of shops and restaurants, places to get pizza, Ice cream for your 6 year old.

Adventureplex is a really fun place for a 6 year old.

los angeles is tough without a car. but the good news is, rental rates at LAX tend to be very low, so it might be a good idea to get one!

Thank you for getting back to us. Glad you had a "blast" with your daughter. The downtown area in Manhattan Beach by the pier is easy to navigate, lots to see and do.

Thanks!
