Hotel Wilshire or The Orlando

My mom and I are going to LA for the weekend and are trying to decide between these two hotels. The rate at the Wilshire is really good so it is cheaper than the Orlando. But at the Orlando we can get 2 queens, as opposed to sharing a King at the Wilshire.

Any thoughts on which is a nicer hotel?

If you mean the Hotel Wilshire at 6317 Wilshire Bl, it is. no question, a superior hotel to the Orlando. (Have you read the reviews for the two hotels here on Trip Advisor? Here they are):

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32655-d2236331…

(newer 4-star property, ranked #42 in overall customer satisfaction). Rooftop pool / bar / restaurant with views.

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32655-d84561-R…

(3-1/2 star property ranked #22 with a restaurant/bar facing 3rd Street)

The big advantage to the Orlando, though is its location -- in the middle of the Beverly Grove neighborhood -- very walkable area with lots of shops and restaurants to say nothing of the Magnolia Bakery across the street (lemon bars, banana pudding, great coffee, etc). The Wilshire is on Wilshire Bl -- a kind of sleepy part of Wilshire in between the famous 'miracle mile' area and Beverly Hills. During the day, there isn't much there -- a discount appliance dealer, newsstand/restaurant aimed at 'office workers', etc. At night, there is NOTHING open. Again, it's a superior hotel but if you find it inconvenient to have to drive the 5 minutes (or take a taxi) to Beverly Grove or Beverly Hills, the Orlando is probably the all-around better option.

Yes, that's the hotel I'm talking about, the Kimpton. Thanks for the info. Since we will have a car and will be driving around downtown, weho, and hollywood, the actual quality of the hotel is what I'm most concerned with (which is newer, nicer, bigger rooms, etc).

The Kimpton is certainly newer. It's a 4-star which is likely to give it a little bit of an edge as far as design appeal. As far as the size of the rooms is concerned, the Orlando has just one floor plan -- a King room (1 king bed) which comes in standard and deluxe. Both plans are 360 sq ft. The Wilshire has lots of floor plans:

King Room (1 king bed) which is smaller than the Orlando's at 280 sq ft. But their 2-queen room is 400 sq ft, their king suite and 2-queen suite are 450 sq ft and their Melrose king studio (1 king + 1 sofabed) is 540 sq ft.
