Getting to Carroll Ave, Angelino Heights

Hello,

We are staying at the Biltmore and would like to find out the best way to get to Carroll Ave, Angelino Heights to view the beautifulVictorian homes.

We do not have a car, so either have to walk or catch public transport.

I hope someone can advise me .

Looking forward to replies.

Regards

Here is how using Google Maps.

I chose one random house in the middle of the block, but the basic instructions are the same.

You'll want a acquaint yourself with Metro's Trip Planner. I'm sure there are smartphone apps which do the same and may well be better.

It looks like you've got a few options with the #2 and #4 lines both running very frequently. You can catch both at 5th & Broadway. It is a short trip to get there from downtown. About 15 minutes bus time.

The trick is where exactly you get off. Angelino Heights is to the east of Echo Park Lake. It is a hilly neighborhood. There's a mix of run-down with the pristine. It is a nice place to look about if you like that kind of thing. You might want to get off before you actually get to Echo Park proper. You should definitely get a clear plan set of where you want to get off and where you want to walk and where you intend to catch the bus back downtown.

I'd also point out the lake was recently refurbished. The city did a very nice job. It is certainly worth your time.

You might also be interested in the Heritage Square Museum. You can reach it by using the Gold Line from Union station.

There are lots of historic neighborhoods in L.A. The city has made attempts to preserve these by establishing HPOZs (Historic Preservation Overlay Zones). Angelino Heights is one of these. Here's info on the others:

Many of these are truly spectacular. Lafayette Square and Windsor Square (the portion that is south of 3rd Street) and also West Adams Terrace (although this is a large area that's difficult to reach without a car), are great examples of these. Use the above public transit websites to make your way to these.

If you have an interest in architecture, look into the LA Conservancy's Walking Tours. The Biltmore is ground-zero for historic architecture. Downtown is a gold mine. There are so many astonishing architectural gems within easy walking distance of your hotel.

Be sure to check out the Central Library which is across the street at 5th & Flower. It is perhaps the city's most beloved building.
