Post Vegas Stag Do Travels

So next June (2015) me and around 20 friends are going to Las Vegas for 4 nights, staying at the MGM Grand. Saturday 6th June to Wednesday 10th June. Considering the cost of the flights me and one other friend have decided to stay out for an extra week, flying out of JFK on Wednesday 17th June.

A bit of background on us, I'm 29 and my mate is 27. We are more bar/club/party sort of people, but like a bit of culture and good food too. We are open to all suggestions, but were planning on 4 nights in California, before flying to New York on Sunday 14th June. We wont be hiring a car, and our budget will be roughly $100-$150 per person for a room per night (So between $200-£300 per night). We want to do a little bit of the touristy stuff in LA, but a bit of beach action wouldn't go amiss too.

So my main questions are:-

- Is there anywhere worth visiting for a night or 2 between Vegas & LA? Possibly more on the relaxing?

- Any specific hotels that come recommended in our price range, max $300 per night? (Initial thoughts are staying in West Hollywood)

- Is 4 nights in LA & 3 nights in NY the best way to split it?

- What bars/clubs should we visit? (We are not really ones for VIP Guestlist/Bottle service etc).....we like to keep it real! :)

- When is best to book our internal flight, and who is usually cheapest? (Found one currently for about £180 on Skyscanner with United).

There's absolutely nothing between Vegas and LA, not unless you detour to Palm Springs or Death Valley. I would choose either LA or NY, not both. You lose two days of travel, so you don't really have the time you think you have. It's a full day to get to NY from LA or Vegas. Vegas to LA is 5 hours by car.

You definitely don't have time for anything "between" LV and LA. If you fly (southwest.com) out of Vegas on Thursday morning you could have 3 nights in Santa Monica. But then Sunday you'd spend all day traveling between LA and New York and really only have Monday and Tuesday to experience New York, unless your flight out on Wednesday is late in the evening, then you'd have a 3rd day in NYC. Le Meridien Delfina comes in a bit over your budget (with the taxes) , or Wyndham at the Pier is just under budget. Loews would be a great choice if you can up your budget by $30 per person per night.

Virgin is probably best for LAX to JFK followed by Jet Blue. Jet Blue rates will include one checked piece of baggage so figure that into your price comparisons with other airlines.

When I think of L.A., I think 'relaxing'. We have mountains, hills, canyons, and beaches and, except for a few 'business districts', our neighborhoods are filled with 1 or 2-story houses or 2 or 3-story buildings with flats. Why would you need to relax on your way to L.A.?

I too don't think you have time to go somewhere other than LA if you are going to still do LA and New York - if you were to go somewhere other than LA, Santa Barbara would be my choice. Palm Springs would be good too but it is likely to be scorching hot there even in early June (then again, so too will Vegas most likely...). But don't think you really have time.

And you would be well served to take a red-eye flight to New York from LA. Early morning flights from LA don't arrive to New York until 4 or 5 in the afternoon their time so you really lose a whole day that way.

Thanks for your help guys. Yeah think we will get a relatively early Greyhound from Vegas to LA then. 4 nights in Vegas for a Stag Do is the reason for thinking about a relaxing day or 2! :) But sounds like we can go straight into LA for that.

Our flight out of JFK is 21:30 so we would have most of the Wednesday in New York too. But an early flight from LA to NY is probably the way we will go anyways.

Does anyone know when the Jet Blue flights go on sale, as June 2015 currently isn't an option on their website. I'm guessing October time, as they're currently up to April? Also would it be better to fly into Newark rather than JFK?

No, JFK is better, and even if you leave LA early, you lose 3 hours so you're arriving into NY round dinner time. Flights into LA from LV run about $70pp and are much preferred over Greyhound.

Fly from Vegas to LA, don't take a bus. They're about the same price.
