Thanks. First, I'd suggest reviewing previous postings in the forum as it covers a lot of what you are asking about. For such a short stay, I wouldn't recommend downtown LA, unless there is something specific you are wanting to do there.

If you plan to sight see, I'd recommend renting a car with a GPS. There is an Enterprise in MB, so you would not need to return to the airport. While traffic can be a challenge, it's usually lighter in the summer when school is out and you can take advantage of the carpool lanes. Avoid driving the coast on the weekend.

For beach, there is no better than Manhattan. You need bikes, they can be rented at Funnbunns in downtown MB or at Hermosa Cyclery near the Hermosa Beach pier.

Cabbing it around the beach cities is easy. Lots of bar/restaurants your group may like in downtown MB. Mucho, MB Post, Sashi. HB has The Rockerfeller up on Pier Ave, and a younger vibe down on Pier Plaza.

For local clubbing you may want to hit Saint Rocke (Hermosa) or Brixton (Redondo Beach). Pick up a free copy the The Beach Reporter or Easy Reader to get who's playing where and everything else happening that week. If you want to leave town, you could cab up to Hollywood, but be prepared to spend an 50 - 60 mins each way.

Fireworks are in Redondo Beach, near their pier. Also, possibly in neighboring El Segundo (if they are doing them this year).

Once you review the previous forum posts, feel free to ask if you're not finding what youy need.
