Best restaurants along the coast?

Would love some recommendations for casual, tasty and scenic restaurants along the coast..we'll be driving down from Napa and spending 2 days in Monterey/Carmel. Even tasty roadside food stand recommendations would be welcome!

Hi. In this area (Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach), the best values--food/price--are usually not restaurants with ocean views. However, if you think you'll be in Pebble Beach (either for golf or for driving the 17-Mile Drive.), Roy's at Spanish Bay is quite good and has gorgeous views. You have to pay a gate fee to get into Pebble Beach, but the restaurant will reimburse you if you eat there.

For a casual lunch with nice views, Schooner's Bistro at the Monterey Plaza Hotel is nice.

For an unusual snack, stop at Pezzini Farms (take the Nashua Rd. as you drive south on Hwy 1 toward Monterey). They have french fried artichoke hearts--yum. OK, so not the healthiest snack, but once in a bue moon, what a treat! You also can pick up some fresh fruit there.

A fun restaurant that's a Moss Landing institution is Phil's Fish Market. If you plan to take Hwy 1 down through Santa Cruz and on into Monterey, you'll go through Moss Landing. http://www.philsfishmarket.com/

Some other restaurants that are very good--and you'll find that most dining around here is casual. If you show up in jeans, no one will care:

My favorite restaurant: Red House Cafe in Pacific Grove http://redhousecafe.com/

Quaint, cozy, excellent food. I prefer lunch over dinner because the selection is larger and the prices lower. Breakfast is great (weekends only)

Tarpy's Roadhouse http://www.tarpys.com/ Lunch or dinner

Taste Cafe and Bistro http://www.tastecafebistro.com/

For inexpensive, casual fish, Sea Harvest on Foam St. in New Monterey

For Mexican, either Michael's Taqueria and Grill in Pacific Grove (Country Club Gate Center) http://michaelsgrillandtaqueria.com/ Very casual

OR

Pepper's Mexicali, also in Pacific Grove http://www.peppersmexicalicafe.com/

Hula's Island Grill http://www.hulastiki.com/mry_video.htm

Very good food, very casual!

For a beautiful view, California Market in the Carmel Highland's area is really good. Phil Fish Market in Moss Landing is also great, we love the Cioppino there. Have fun! :)

Duarte's Taverm in Pescadero is a must. Known for its artichoke soup and berry pies, it is in the charming small town a little drive off the road. Watch for the sign, maybe 10 miles south of Half Moon Bay.

(Incidently, pronounced "Doo-Arts", not "Dwart-ees") for some reacon.

I like Duarte's in Pescadero as well, and I also really like getting sandwiches and garlic herb bread at Arcangeli Grocery / Norm's market just down the street a bit.

We were at Gorilla BBQ in Pacifica, right off hwy 1 and it was some mighty good lip-smakin' bbq. Its actually in a railway car so you sit outside at picnic tables or in your car.

We also like Johnny's Harborside

It is the harbor - but good food; nice service, and casual.

By the way - on Duartes you might want to read the reviews

tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g32873-d46…

In short the soup is good.....

It is not a "must" at all - its just one place of many to enjoy lunch.

There are lots more better places to go.

On the Monterey Peninsula there are over 300 restaurants to choose from. Most are pretty good, to put it mildly. Some of the touristy places on Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row are kinda iffy, but for the most part you'll find good eats on almost every block. Probably the best restaurant with a bay view is Schooners Bistro at the Monterey Plaza Hotel on Cannery Row. The "C" at the Clement Hotel, also on Cannery Row is reputed to be a good spot, but I haven't been there. Downtown Carmel has the highest concentration of good restaurants to suit almost any taste and budget. You'll find some nice surprises scattered around the town, tucked away in some tiny courtyard.

I agree with PCdenizen, the Red House Cafe in Pacific Grove is great! Breakfast and lunch are both great, never had dinner there.

We have been spending alot of time in the Carmel/Monterey area lately. Crystal Fish is a very good casual restaurant in Monterey. On 17 Mile Drive, The Market is a great place to pick up sandwiches and desserts. For a really great roadside venue, at Pezzini Farms there is a taco truck there that makes AMAZING pork and beef tacos. You get 4 small tacos for about $3.50. :)
