NAPA Hotel Suggestions

We all know how expensive Napa B & B and hotels can be but I have read view few reviews on here about hotels throughout the valley. We are planning a visit in jan/feb and looking for a hotel around $125 or so but prefer not to stay in some cracker box smokey hallway if possible. Jan/Feb should lend to some promotions we are thinking also.

If you have visited any of the napa cities recently, I would enjoy reading your reviews about the hotel so we can get an idea of what condition the hotel is in and how the service was.

El Bonita motel is my recco. Great location in the town of St. Helena and friends have stayed here and said it was actually nice.

Could also consider Carlin Cottages in Calistoga. A few blocks off the main street but a nice clean place.

You may also want to consider the Best western and Comfort Inn up in Calistoga. It's the opposite end of the valley from Napa Proper, but it's a less expensive alternative and those two places are not terrible. If the Marriott has rooms, that's something to consider - remember to ask for AAA rates. Even if you aren't a member, I've never had them ask for a card upon arrival. There is also the John Muir Inn that's conveniently located off the main road and is usually nicely priced.

We just came back from a weekend (January 6-8) in Napa. We stayed at the Silverado Resort and had a great time. We got a deal off of travelzoo, so we were able to upgrade to a suite, which we highly recommend. The bathroom was small, but the rest of the room and dressing area was good size and we had a fireplace. Due to the time of year (and maybe the reported flooding, which we did not see much sign of), there were not many people there and we got lots of attention.
