July 15-19 suggestions-also night in San Francisco

We are flying into SFO on July 15, renting a car, and staying at Napa River Inn. Have booked reservations for Platypus Wine Tour for July 16. Have a tour of Hendry on the 17th and also want to do a tasting at Cakebread and Clos Pegase. Other than that, no definite plans. Can anyone offer suggestions for anything else we shouldn't miss? Also we have decided to go spend the night of the 18th back in San Francisco so that we'll be closer to the airport for our morning flight out the 19th. Any suggestions for hotels in San Francisco? We're thinking Union Square looks like a good area. One other question--would it be worthwhile for us to go return our rental car on the 18th when we go back to San Fran, which would mean a trip back to the airport and then catching BART back to the hotel. Parking looks to be expensive at hotels, but if it's a big waste of time to try to return our car early, we don't mind paying for parking. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

There are car rental places near Union Square. Check with your company to see if they have one there and whether they would charge you more to drop it off there. If not, I would definitely turn it in.

Am interested in why you are not spending some time in San Francisco? Have you already "done that, been there"? Napa is nice, but a day is usually enough for me.

The Platypus tour will provide a nice range of winery experiences. On the 17th, I'm concerned that you'll burn up too much time at Hendry (2 hrs for the tour) and then a lot of transit time between Clos Pegase which is at the northern end of the valley and Hendry, at the southern end. Suggest focusing you touring day in a narrower geo - possibly building an itinerary around Cakebread, that would include either Hendry or Clos Pegase.

Could we ask you to take a look at this winery map, do a little research, and come back with your preference for visiting Cakebread, Hendry & points south, or Cakebread, Clos Pegase & points north? Then we can make specific suggestions. Also, if you can find out where Platypus will be taking you, that will narrow our suggestions down even further.

FYI, Hendry is not on this map, but it's located at the far bottom, on the way to Hess Collection. Note how far apart Hendry and Clos Pegase are!

We just got back from a Napa trip. Just wanted to give a quick heads-up: the BART workers were striking while we were there, and all BART lines were closed when we flew into SFO (we were renting a car anyway, so it wasn't an issue for us). Don't know if they have worked it out yet, but if BART is down, you can always take a cab -- we have done it before, and it's quite easy. Just be sure that you give yourself plenty of time with traffic and all.

Have fun!

Thanks for the input. We cancelled the Hendry tour and felt we learned plenty while on the Platypus Tour, which we highly recommend. It was a perfect trip and one we hope to repeat someday.
