Tide Pools for the best viewing

For our very quick trip to Newport Beach, I'm trying to use our time wisely. We'll do either Balboa Pier or Huntington Beach with grandchildren on Monday (Memorial Day).

Then on Tuesday to Carona del Mar or Crystal Cove. What are there differences in these two areas? Crystal Cove is closest to our hotel. We want to see tide pools, and on Tuesday I think low tide is around 3:24 PM, at 1.8 feet. With that much water, will we be able to see animals? The lowest of tides is at about 5 AM...!!

My opinion: neither place is that good for tide pools. Crystal Cove has an extremely long stretch of sandy shores, not enough rocks. I saw some pictures of tide pools at Crystal Cove (at least supposedly). I don't know where they are actually.

Tide pools at Corona Del Mar are in a very small area. The rest of the shores are too rugged, cliff/rocky face to walk on.

We usually go tidepooling in the winter, when tides are negative. So 1.8' maybe not that impressive??

I really like Crystal Cove- hiking, beaches, historic district. Little Corona Del Mar is nice too, scenic. Parking can be a challenge though.

>>> Crystal Cove is closest to our hotel.<<<

If your hotel is on Coast Highway in Newport Beach you have to drive through Corona del Mar to get to Crystal Cove.
