Looking to travel to CA with wife and three kids(13,9,6)

Good morning. My wife and I are looking to go to CA in August of 2013. We have never been to the West coast, so I am looking for some input/ideas on where to go and stay. I do NOT mind doing some touristy things. FWIW, one of my wife's co-workers mentioned the San Diego or Newport area. We prefer Marriott's. Any input/advice would greatly be appreciated. THANKS!

GLM actually mentions a rental, not a hotel. Opinions of tourists are valuable. At times there is flat out bad information or misleading info given out by locals and DEs (I am not referring to you) as well.

>>>I've booked over 6000 trips into Newport Beach with ZERO Complaints, mostly because I know the properties in the area and how to match them up with the clients<<<

This is the first I have heard that you are a travel professional "booking" people into properties. Do you book people in the Newport Coast Villas? Are you compensated for that?

Your personal attacks on GLM are contrary to the spirit of TA and the guidelines as well. You owe her an apology.

GLM clearly suggests a rental, NOT a hotel room.

I really do not understand what the big fuss is about regarding NC Villas. Like any other resort/hotel/location there are pros and cons. People should be able to point them out and let the traveler decide for themselves. The facts are that NCV are isolated if you want to be on foot. You CAN walk to Crystal Cove but there is a significant hill. When I went to lunch a a couple of weeks ago at The Beachcomber there was a lot of water to cross under the road. Two in our party did not want to walk from the parking lot and they certainly would not have walked from the villas. You can walk to the Shake Shack, again there is a hill. I don't know about walking to Pelican Hill, never gave it any thought, but I will take your word for it that you can. Getting in a shuttle is different from walking places and it can get old quick but you make a very good point that you can get to other places with the shuttle.

NCV may be right for them and maybe not. I don't know why every time NCV is brought up it must turn into personal attacks.
