Drive from Palm Desert to LAX

Hi all,

Flight leaves 9am Sunday morning from LAX. Is it feasible (traffic wise) to drive from Palm Desert to LAX Sunday leaving around 4am. Need to return rental car before boarding. If not, decent place to get hotel Sat eve?

Thanks

Sunday, you would be fine, Monday, you would be stressing out trying to make it on time.

I would probably leave Saturday night after sunset, just because I hate waking up early!

Sunday is about the only day I would suggest you could leave at that early hour and make your flight at LAX. Leaving on Saturday would be the safest bet, but how many days do you have in the desert?

The route we take coming back home to LA is :

10W-60W-605S-105W

This avoids downtown LA and the 105 ends at LAX. However, don't know which car rental you are using, but most are located near Century Blvd. and Aviation Blvd so take the off ramp before the end of the freeway to return car. You should map it out before you start your drive.

There are many brand name hotels on Century with free shuttles to the airport if you decide to come back the day before.

If you prefer to drive on Saturday, Manhattan Beach or El Segundo should have hotel availability and you'll be 10 mins from the car rental return centers.

This coming Saturday night the SeaHorse Inn Manhattan Beach is @ $95, the Hawthorn Suites is $125.

What time would I have to leave Palm Desert on a Monday to be in Palos Verdes by 11am?

Beth,

You are going to run into rush hour traffic coming into LA. Once you get to the coast, Palos Verdes is a long way up the hill. I'd leave by 7 am to get there by 11 am.
