staying at Wyndham Palm Springs, desire suggestions...

Hi folks,

Staying at Wyndham Palm Springs last week of March. Will not have an auto so everything needs to be in walking distance.

1) We desire restaurant suggestions, and categorize a) less than $15, b) less than $30, c) more than $30, per person.

2) Is there a casino nearby? If yes, how far is it, and describe atmosphere?

3) What are other sites of interest in that vicinity?

4) If time permits, we might consider that Tram ride, what are the details in setting that up??

5) Finally, in all these suggestions, is it safe walking around at nite??

Thanks in advance,

hr

1) We desire restaurant suggestions, and categorize a) less than $15, b) less than $30, c) more than $30, per person.

THERE ARE MANY RESTAURANTS ALL ALONG INDIAN ANDPALM CANYON DRIVES...MOST POST THE MENUS OUT FRONT...JUSTWALK AND SEE WHAT INTERETS YOU. FOR CHEAP AMERICAN FOOD, RUBYS DINER IS RIGHT DOWNTOWN BY THE BIG FOUNTAIN...YOU CANT MISS IT

2) Is there a casino nearby? If yes, how far is it, and describe atmosphere?

The Spa Casino is 2 blocks away, if that. The atmosphere is that of a Casino. There is a buffet inside , all youcan eat, if you hit it at lunch before the price goes up, it's reasonable and you will have plenty to eat.

4) If time permits, we might consider that Tram ride, what are the details in setting that up??

THE HOTEL MAY HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO THE TRAM STATION BUT ITS ONLY A FEW MILES NORTH OF THERE SO A CAB WOULDNT BE TOO EXPENSIVE...JUST GO TO THE TRAM STATION AND BUY TICKETS-ITS ABOUT 30 DEGREES COOLER ON TOP, SO DRESS WARMLY

5) Finally, in all these suggestions, is it safe walking around at nite??

Yes, its a busy downtown area, use common sense near the Casino.

Here are some suggestions for you:

1. Restaurant under $15 - try Tyler's for a great hamburger; less than $30 try Kalura Trattoria for good italian; more than $30 try Citron at the Viceroy Hotel for a hip, cool fine dining experience. All are within walking distance to the Wyndham.

2. Casino is a block away from Wyndham. Nice casino, several restaurants, live entertainment, buffet. Smoky and loud.

3. Lots of shops and dining nearby. Try the Palm Springs Art Museum, lousy by big city standards but ok if you lower your expectations.

4. Tram ride is around $20. Take a cab, bring a warm jacket. Hotel concierge will have a brochure with a phone number for current weather at top of Tram.

5. It is safe to walk around at night. The city goes to bed early. Use common sense.

Have a good time!

A big TY to KbearC and sunnyps.

Those are great tips and suggestions, and gives a much better sense what Palm Springs has to offer in that area. Will be consolidating this and other information to make a plan.

Already, looking forward to this trip..........

Thanks again,

Are you coming for the Dinah Shore? The Wyndham will not be going to bed early that week...

mmm restaurant suggestions.

If you like Mexican, La Casita across the street from the casino could qualify as less than 15. They have an amazing platter for two that is only 14.99!! it is delicious and huge, I don't know how they are able to offer it for that price.

LOL, lol, that is really funny, but that is a negative. When I first read about it, my first thot was "oh my goodness", but then I thot what the heck, it might be very interesting being among them. Actually, I think the Dinah Shore will start the day AFTER I leave, but I might catch some early arrivals.

sunnyps - Thanks for your detailed suggestions on 5 Qs. Those restaurant ideas sound great, will consider them. Casino being smoky and loud, well, gotta at least try it and see if it is bearable for follow-up visits.

palapi - Mexican food sounds good, will have to jot that down as a possibility.

Per question 4 Tram ride, what is at the top of the mountain? What does one do up there? How long can one stay there before descending?

Hey KbearC, I'm still chuckling and having a good laugh regarding your question.........

Thanks all,

hr

LOL

well its a busy week, and noisy, lots of shows and parties planned and most of the action is AT the Wyndham, so be prepared. SInce you are leaving early you will miss the crowds....it does get rowdy tho.

At the top of the Tram you can hike, grab a bite and see the views. Not more than a couple hours at the most unless you really plan to hike around...

If you like Indian food there's a very good place on north Palm Canyon (east side of street) north of downtown. Indian foodis usually inexpensive.
