Is PS good for young kids?

We're thinking of visiting Palm Springs in mid March. Is there a lot to do with young children (5&7)? We've been to South Calif several times and looking for something different to do.

Thanks!

It's probably not the greatest destination for young kids. There is stuff you could do with them-like shorter/easier hikes, there's the living desert, there's a water park if you're not planning to come in the winter, they might enjoy going up the tram..

but there's not a whole lot of things specifically geared at children if that's what you mean.

Oh, there is also boomers for kids, with minigold, go karts etc.

You might also want to look into tucson or phoenix. still desert cities, but with a few more attractions specifically geared at kids.

I think the ??is hard to answer without knowing you and your kids. The Palm Springs area is a valley in the desert with a string of towns/cities. Some parts have a suburban feel and some a bit more small town. There are families with children living there and the attractions that palapi mentioned are available. In addition there is swimming, biking ,malls, movies, anything you'd find in a normal USA town.

For adults there's also golf and casinos BUT if you are looking for theme parks to keep the kiddies entertained then this is NOT the place for you.

It's good for a couple of days - but not much more. Fun things for that age:

Living Desert - It is wonderful - we were very pleasantly surprised when we were there last March. (my kids were 9, 5 & 1). We had planned on only the morning - but ended up staying the whole day.

Arial Tramway - a little pricey I think - but it is fun - the kids loved going up and down to the top where you can do some nice easy hiking. I get altitude sickness though and need time to adjust - so it wasn't as fun as it should have been :)

Depends on if we have a rainy or beautiful spring - there are some great pools in the area and mine are always happy swimming. Last year it was gorgeous when we were there.

There are also some Jeep Tours you can take through the desert that I am sure my older kids would have loved. I am not sure what the minimum age is - we couldn't go because of the baby.

The outlets aren't too far away if you want to do some shopping. Mine last about a half day doing that as long as they can get something.

If you want other So Cal options as well - let me know where you've been and what you enjoy on vacation.

We have young children and go for a week at a time. They love it. We stay at a great resort with all kinds of amenities and pools and they are very happy campers. To venture out we enjoy the living desert, Indian Canyons and there is a Children's Discovery museum in Rancho Mirage. If you are a creative family and enjoy being outdoors you will find plenty to keep you busy, but hopefully relax a little too!

I have printed out a few things. We're going to be there on Wednesday and are getting excited.

I'm sure we'll find something and we're renting a car. We'll be at a resort but my son is 3. He's looking forward to seeing the desert critters LOL=)

We are planning to be in LA for a week from February 15-22. We're thinking about taking a day trip to Palm Springs to show the kids the desert, maybe do the tram thing, desert museum, etc. Do you think this is ok as a day trip (kids are 11 and 7)?

I haven't been to Joshua Tree since 1996. Would kids like it?

I remember that there was old mine equipment out there that older boys might think was pretty cool.

If you only go for a couple of days, you will be fine with kids there. Of course a two week vacation just in Palm Springs would probably bore kids your age.

If you have a car, Dinsneyland is not to far off for a daytrip...

We've been taking our adult kids to the desert since they were in strollers. So much for kids. We've been spending a week at Easter in March/April forever, and still find new things to do with our grandchild. The Living Desert is always the best, or the Tram. You don't have to play golf or tennis for a great time. We like the Palm Desert area better.
