Palm Springs in the rain?

We are planning a trip to Palm Springs this weekend (Feb 28-March 3) to escape the rain in Portland. Just checked the forecast and ACK! it's going to rain there too!

Is there anything to do in Palm Springs in the rain? Would we be able to keep driving east and escape the rain (we will have a car and we love to hike)?

Should we just cut our losses and not go? the airline tickets were cheap and we haven't paid for anything else. thanks in advance for any advice!

Yeah, the rainpocalypse. I was going to say it should mostly bypass PS, but then I checked a few other sources, and they're all mixed. Huh.

If it's raining and thundering, it's not really a good idea to be out anywhere in the desert.

Are you flying right into PS itself?

You can find a cheap Motel, rent a car, check out the Cabazon and Desert Hills Outlets, outdoors, but with overhangs to usually provide shade, but also will help with the rain.

Plenty of Casinos that will be indoors and offer entertainment and dining options.

Hopefully the rain will have some breaks, The Living Desert is good for a few hours if you find a dry spell. The Palm Springs Tramway basic trip and upper viewing area is indoors, and of course, plenty outdoors up top, and once again, if you find a dry spell or light rain, step out of the building.

I wouldn't worry about it. All I see currently this afternoon in the reports is a 30% chance which is nothing. Can't tell you how many times I have been in PS and it is pouring in LA or San Diego, and PS is nice. Those mountains block alot of rain.

Even if it does rain, you can still see and do things. The desert smells like creosote bushes after it rains.

Thanks all! We are flying in and out of San Diego and planned to drive to Palm Springs but have no reservations yet. We could drive anywhere, really, we are just looking for sun!

Rain has never spoiled our frequent trips. I'm trying to think back if we've been there in pouring rain during the day. Have seen cloudy skies but never had to cancel activities.

There are plenty of museums to visit. The Art Museum, Air Museum, Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, Motion Picture Hall of Fame, La Quinta Museum, and many more.

As Dez noted, it's a 30% chance. We've been here since mid December and haven't seen a drop. If it really happens you might see locals dancing in the streets. PS and the valley cities are somewhat protected by the mountains. I wouldn't worry about it.

It doesn't look like PS will see a lot of rain this weekend. Charts only show a 0.30" expected. The high temps have to look inviting after that ice storm you guys had last week. Friday's expected high is 70 degrees. Slightly cooler on Saturday at 66.

OK, I just went to Weather.com, because I do believe from watching/listening to the news, that the are aill get more than 1/3'rd of an inch of rain.

Weather.com is claiming a 90 percent chance of rain on Friday night (during the day, it is 30%).

Saturday night is 60% (30 percent during the day)

Sunday is 10% both day and night.

OOPS, a typo...

It should be... >>that the AREA WILL get more than 1/3'rd of an inch of rain.<<
